Absolutey. Jesus was a socialist. He practiced socialized medicine when he healed the sick free of charge. (Mark and Matthew is the reference healing the sick for all you religious zealots who will blast me for saying this.)
To anyone who feels we should not have socialized medicine in the U.S. , then public school, police, fire, and the military, and prison programs should all be disbanded as well. Give me all my tax dollars back and let me fend for myself. That logic sounds pretty irrational, yep. well so does telling the most vulnerable of our society that we can't find a solution to provide them with the care they need.
Not everyone is a freeloader and not everything we do in capitalism should have a price tag attached to it. Politics aside, the root of evil here is money. Wealthy people want to continue making money from others suffering and will continue to do so because they can afford to intimidate, confuse, misrepresent, and completely distort the truth about Universal Health care.
Bottom line. America is the world wealthiest nation because we are the craftiest at the art of exlpoitation. We are the only Industrialized nation that has no plan. This is not some mistake. This is deliberate. I don't blame the For profit hospitals, the corporations, or the government. I blame the those who watch CNN and FOX news, and then proceed to spout out talking points, minus the actual facts.
This has become a very Orwellian and Bradbury national era of dystiopian "factoids" and "doublspeak". At the end of the day, the rich will continue to stifle the poor, call it patriotism and freedom in doing so, and nothing will change...yet. Economics and Biology however have a different plan. And this will make our next 50 years of life in America very interesting. Feel free to shout, call me whatever you want, and or, to tell me I'm a marxist etc. - j

The universal health care system that works so well in other countries wouldn't work so well in the US simply because the middle-class which would inevitably face the proportionally worst taxation simply would not be able to foot the bill for the immense amount of "freeloaders". One must understand that the wealth structure of the US isn't suited for supporting a system like this unless you were to implement very steep progressive taxation, but that would of course discourage investors and enterprisers even more than the high wages and unions already do.
I'm not quite sure. I think it would be a good idea to expand medicare or to provide subsides insurance, but let people keep their private insurance.
My brother has cancer, and we almost lost our house. That's not unique, either, so the gov't should probably do SOMETHING about it.
