It has to do with your body not your age when it comes to lifting. Some get bulkier quicker than others. At 17, your body is still growing and your muscles are still developing. When it comes to lifting you have to progress onto certain weights. You can not just start out at lifting the big weights if you still haven't conquered the medium weights. Hope this helped bro

When you're 24 you body is prime... Don't see working out at 17 as anything other than preconditioning before your body actually looks great.
