Does licorice extract work for skin lightening?

Does licorice extract work really well for skin lightening? I heard putting extract in your bath or boiling it and adding it to your bath will help you lighten your skin. I guess I plan on doing this weekly so I can help maintained my color as well as gradually lighten.
If not do you know of any other good lightening creams, soaps or natural remedies. I'm really getting tired of having dark skin and just want to lighten it because it looks wayyyyy better. I also know guys like it more so that's a plus.

Unfortunately I don't think it lightens the skin, saying that though the extract does prevent the process of tyrosinase which controls the production of melanin. I also read that "It is nontoxic to melanocytes (pigment producing cell) , preventing permanent discoloration nor is it toxic to surrounding keratinocytes (a keratinocyte is the outermost layer of the skin)". I can recommend you using lemon juice on your skin, I've heard that works from many people! :)
