Eat eat eat!!! I could say a million things about gaining weight, working out, being healthy, etc, but eating A LOT is definitely the most important part! It doesn't matter how much you work out and exercise, you won't gain any weight or muscle if you don't have extra calories to burn and nutrients to feed those muscles!!
At first it's hard to do because you're used to not eating much. But over time you'll naturally start eating more. Just stay dedicated. I would recommend drinking protein shakes as well as eating other foods high in protein. Protein is what muscles need to build and get bigger. I really like scrambled eggs for breakfast, greek yogurt and cashews for a snack, and a chicken sandwich for a meal later in the day! Also keep in mind, a protein shake is not a replacement for a meal, but is a supplement. It's best to drink a protein shake about 30-60 minutes before a workout.
Also when I say eat, I mean eat healthy. You don't wanna get fat. So stay away from fast food, anything with lots of sugar, processed meats, energy drinks, etc. You know what's healthy and what's not.
When actually weight lifting, know that it doesn't matter how much you are lifting if you aren't lifting correctly with proper form. Watch videos on youtube for advice on different workouts and proper form. 2 good channels are ScottHermanFitness and BuffDudes.
Also, get a good amount of sleep. That's when your muscles are repairing and actually building and getting bigger. So plenty of sleep is important too.
Also, don't expect immediate results. This is something that requires lots of hard work and dedication. So don't give up if you've only gained 2 pounds after a month, that's actually about how fast you'll gain weight. For beginners like yourself, you can expect to gain a good 20 - 25 pounds after your first year if everything is done properly.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
