I fell in love with fitness and with my health. It cured me. People don't realize that physical health is detrimental to mental health. Exercise and a healthy diet are crucial to a happy, healthy brain. I'm happier than I've ever been in my life, and I've learned how to love myself. Everyday I fall in love with being alive.

I'm still dealing with depression, so I can't say I've pushed through it and overcame it fully. Taking pills and drinking all the time won't help you, though I know you use them as a crutch because they numb or make you forget the pain for a little while. The problem is they don't help you get over it. Alcohol (and maybe the pills) is a depressant, so you're only making the situation worse by drinking it honestly. Exercise can help. Being around those that lift you up and make you smile can be good as well.
Get off the meds. Trust me, that's what I did.
I can't say I have 'come out' of depression. But things are much better now, and I'm able to manage pretty well. I was diagnosed with acute depression, hyperanxiety and also suspected of bipolar.
I can't really say I'm 'happy' now, but I'm able to move forward with me life, and also working on ways to be happy and content! :)
Telling you every day that it will get better, that you got to keep fighting because you wonder what you could do, besides of what others tell you. You keep clinging on that question,

I don't think anyone "comes out of it". It's always there, but you learn to avoid and endure it.
