Why do people act like its not (scientifically) possible to change your body shape?

Because I know its true. I may not be the perfect hourglass I want to be... Yet. But in my efforts to get in shape and taking photos along the way I have changed by two body shapes that came with losing and gaining (it was very hard to gain steadily) and am a lot closer to being the thick hourglass I hope to be. I won't post them simply because I refuse to have random strangers seeing what I look like and have the images end up on google. Plus I am under 18. Back to what I was saying... Still not there yet. To the type of body I want. But with my research I am beginning to learn that changing one's body shape is actually a myth, that it is just not scientifically possible because your shape is your shape. I once heard that "Muscle only defines your shape, it doesn't change it." Does that mean that all getting in shape does is pronounce your shape? If thats true then that means that I must have had a lot of fat covering my actual shape when I was way skinnier... But I am thicker now. I don't get it.
