Also, I wonder what guys would do if girls grunted out loud while lifting weights, would this be social acceptable hahaha! :p
Why do guys grunt really loud when working out? Also, guys how would you feel if a girl grunted while lifting weights? lol
Because it takes a lot of effort to lift, press, pull or curl heavy weight, and it's scientifically proven that grunting helps exert more energy from the body, meaning you can lift more or can lift what you got more easily. Scientists and Professional trainers like me actually recommend grunting to both men and women if you want to squeeze out every ounce of energy and power you have while lifting.
Same applies to other things like sports or martial arts when you yell when striking it helps to project more power into a kick or punch.
Of course some people just to it or do it extra loud to draw attention to themselves but most of the time it's to exert more energy.
Wow very interesting, that makes total sense to me. :) Thank you for the info and breaking it down so I fully understand. :)
:) :)
I have been going to gyms for over 25 years. I do not need to grunt and I think this is something that shows lack of focus and concentration. I have no idea why anyone needs to grunt. There is no science behind it as to being able to lift more weight. This is all in their heads and completely unnecessary. Some guys do it because they are meatheads and simply showing off too.
Interesting to see the counter argument to this topic, thank you for your answer. :)
Problem is that many men take too much weight and as a result can't do the exercise properly. To finish, they grunt indeed to do the last reps. But since they don't do the movements correct (they have yo compensate with other body movements), the effect of the exercise is minimal.
Interesting, never though about it that way. Thank you for the new perspective. :)
They are pushing themselves. Physical activity can sometimes cause people to be more vocal. I am not a loud person, I'm not a grunter, but if I had to lift a lot or something I might slightly grunt. I haven't tried.
Okay yeah I agree, u make a good point. :)
Sometimes I do it to but it's subtle, because the weights are so heAvy and at some point you feel like your muscles will give up on you
I just imagined you doing a loud, deep grunt while lifting tiny weights.
Yeah understandable :) now come to think about it, i do some subtle grunts too when lifting weights lol.
@FakeName123: lol Are u talking to her or me?
@FakeName123 lol 😂

It makes you feel more powerful and 'alpha'-ish. It leads to small bursts of energy and muscle strain relief, similar to how people swear/curse when they hurt themselves etc.
Some might just grunt loudly so they can attract attention to themselves implying that they're lifting heavy weights & how much it hurts/takes and everybody should look at them and mire them.
Okay yeah, I can definitely see both points you metioned. :) Thank you!
Some guys also do that and make other weird noises in the washroom. Like hey will go to a stand up stall to pee, and they make a really loud, 'Ahhhhh', sound before they pee. Or they'll make a relieved sound after they pee and speak to themselves a little bit, it's fucking gross.
The guys at the gym are probably just getting their last few repetitions in and are trying to power through it. Or maybe they are looking for attention. Still gross lol
Hahaha really, geeze! But okay then, thank you for your answer. :) Also, Thank you for the insight about what goes on in mens bathrooms lol
:P Same reason as this! Putting in effort, although i think MANY people oversell the amount of effort it takes.
Haha makes since, i didn't even remember tennis players did this. Thank you for your answer & example. :)
Because it takes a lot of effort to put 400 lbs on your back and squat down. I don't know why girls complain about this lol
^ MHO
No I'm not complaining nor saying it's a bad thing, Just asking. :)
To impress someone, God knows who. Same reason girl tennis players tend to grunt a lot.
Or, maybe they fear feral pigs are trapped inside the gym and want to frighten them away.
Haha fear pigs, good one. :p
Sometimes I'm like, 'I'm getting these fucking reps in, I don't care if it kills me' :P It's like a strong will kind of thing.
Haha cool, makes since, i like the enthusiasm! :)
I don't know. Some people say, because it is a way to overcome their pain, and others say it is a way to lift more.
Yeah that's what I'm learning from different people's comments, seems to be that reason, so your answer is spot on. :)
My brother, and I workout a lot and see the same thing a lot too. He and I are bigger than a majority of people (we are 6'3", weigh around 250lbs, and have a 36 inch waist) but I don't scream or grunt when lifting. However, my brother says I make funny faces on my last reps, or tap my feet. And he looks like he goes cross-eyed on the last rep. I think different strokes for different folks. I just don't like when people go too extreme on the noise they make.
Haha how funny but it's totally understandable cuz the weights are heavy. :) U guys are tall, do you guys play sports?
I played lacrosse and rugby. I was really good at rugby I got to try out for my countries team (south africa), but then I saw guys who were in it and how they complained about how they were forced to retire at such a young age, due to injuries, and had no other job experience. So I decided to pursue a career in medicine. Now I have just completed my first year of med school. My brother and I still play rugby with the local clubs though. He also plays volleyball and softball with his girlfriend.
That's awesome, good for you on finishing your first year at meds school! :) Also, sounds like you & your brother are pretty close. :) I hear rugby is super intense, it's similar to football right?
It is so unique, but comparable to football. I think football was inspired by rugby. However, it is faster than football, and much more dynamic. Tackling in rugby is actually tackling. While tackling in football is more just about colliding into someone while going full speed at them. Heard some guys compare rugby to football mixed with wrestling and soccer. Kind of accurate I guess?
and thank for congratulating me on medical school. Worked hard to get them. Yeah my brother and I are really close. We have 2 year difference (he's older), and have never spent more then a 2 weeks apart.
Okay then, the sport sounds interesting & cool. :) Yeah i guess some people would compare it to those. I've only heard the rugby and football comparison. I use to play basketball, my family likes football and basketball. :)
Because it takes effort to lift those weights. Some martial artists shout when kicking and punching, tennis players grunt too sometimes when hitting the ball,
Hmm so true, thank for reminding me. :)
no problem :D
:) :)
It's because they are seeking attention. There is no need for someone to scream at the gym.
Lol okay :)
Mirin brah?
😂😂😂
@QooLipBite Nope. You're probably a cuck who does this.
i think that's normal, even for girls who lift heavy weights.. :D
Yeah true. :) Do u lift weights a lot?
sometimes the heavy ones. usually I'm with my dumbells :D
Okay awesome, u go girl! :)
You already answered your question in the second sentence.
Oh okay cool, I wasen't completely sure it was just a guess lol. Do you do this when u work out?
Yeah, I don't like to, but sometimes at the end I'm in pain/struggling.
Okay then :) Do you lift weights everyday? Every time i go to the gym, the weight room/ section is filled with mostly men lol.
If I went everyday that would b counterproductive, I go 3 times a week, sometimes 4.
Okay cool, good for you. :)
Lol. I noticed that too and I'm a guy. I can tell you when I push myself I let a grunt out, depending on how much effort I put in. The more effort, the louder the grunt
lol. Yeah i do that too, so I understand. :) Hey at least ur getting in workout in, no pain no gain right. ;) Our my motto no pain no cake hahaha.
They do too. It comes naturally when you're lifting heavy
Lol makes since. :) How would you feel if a girl grunted while working out, would you feel wierded out?
No women grunt in my gym all the time. Why is it so weird?
I dont think its weird, I was just asking :) Some may think it's less feminine.
Fair enough. I think it would be less feminine.
Okay then :) Thanks again for answering my question. :)
Oh don't lie you know damn well that it turns you on 😂😂 cmon you have to admit its hot when guys grunt/moan.
Hahaha I think your talking mkre about a different type of moan, more like a pleasure maon/grunt haha. ;)
grunting helps them to lift weights , it boosts there power
Thank you, great answer! :)
you welcom ;)
:) :)
Theyre steroid-filled attention seekers. Grunting is not a normal reaction unless you are exerting 120% of your power into something. And id be fine if girls did it but id feel the same way
Have you ever tried to deadlift over 300 lbs? It's damn near impossible to not make a noise lol
@Fearless_banana
Lol no i haven't but I've seen dudes grunt when lifting 60lbs. Its kind of ridiculous
Because they're lifting weights
:) :)
It's a gym so if you have problem with it and no one else does then keep it to yourself
lol I don't have a problem with it, im just asking. :)
Your second sentence is why lol
Lol okay cool, waneed to make sure!
*wanted
Yes they grunt cause of all the weight they have to lift while working out.
