you might as well believe in magic...
Do you believe in luck?
you might as well believe in magic...
"I'm not lucky, I'm blessed" -Nicki Minaj ;D hehehe
I don't believe in luck, I think some people are just born into better lives. I would be fully capable of being extremely successful within years of graduating if I didn't have to work 3 jobs, but I wasn't born into a privileged family.
Most people in America who are fortunate enough to have their health by the time they're 60 are often from privileged, middle class or rich families. They aren't 'lucky' to have their health, they're lucky to have been able to prevent anything major through getting regular check ups, which they could afford through healthcare.
Some people claim all it takes is hard work and some luck, but my mom cleans toilets for a living, working overtime and for years; the only thing luck would do for her would be if the rich privileged people decided to raise the minimum wage. And even that isn't out of luck, it's an action that was a result of activist groups, lobbying, and often it takes protests.
Oooooo, that's me! get it gurl!
HAHAHAHA
I generally don't, but lately I feel like I'm much "luckier" than other people I know... There are people who keep having bad things happen to them, even though they're good people and don't bring it upon themselves with stupidity or anything. I'm still leaning toward it being random coincidences, though.
Or maybe they just dwell on the negative things more than I do, so it seems like bad things happen to them more often. :P
In the big picture, I think people need to realize that they're in control of their lives more than they think. You're about 90% in charge of whether you have a good life or a good day.
I Voted A.
I kind of believe in luck as far as the definition goes, because it's the word we assign to events which have been slightly more in your favour than usual, potentially meaning someone else has just suffered some serious misfortune as well.
So, for example, if I was walking under a building (or rather, next to a very tall building) and a piano dropped and crushed some dude next to me, I would be lucky - or at least, very fortunate - that it was him, and no me.
He, on the other hand, would be pretty unfortunate and not to mention screwed.
I don't like to consider it a guiding force or anything - the only guiding force I really believe in is Karma, but only the negative side. Being good is good but won't mean good things happen to you, because...actually I'm going to cut that short because it's irrelevant.
Anyway, hope my answer made sense and stuff. :)
it depends what you look at as luck, a lot of things are out of our control so maybe you consider luck just the outside factors aligning to your benefit. I don't think you should RELY on luck tho, and hone your personal skills to effect the world

I don't believe a force like luck actually exists, but I do use "you're lucky", "good luck", "I got lucky", etc. when coincidental events occur and circumstances are greatly to the advantage or disadvantage of an individual, or I hope they are. It's a way of expression. I really don't think there's a magical force or being like Lady Luck that controls people's fortune and misfortune.
No problem :) Yeah, I don't even try anymore haha, as long as 'I' know I don't mean something supernatural, it's all good.
More like, their mindset and determination makes someone lucky. Notice that you always feel lucky when you wake up feeling good and lucky things happen.
Although, I don't think bad luck exists, just a mere coincedence that is mostly like the consequence of something else. Or just generally unfortunate :/
this is a bit like karma really.
yes and no. Luck in that it's a force like fate? No. Luck as in I just happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong (or right) due to the circumstances so ya... if that makes sense.
it's still luck in the sense of chance. You chanced to be somewhere at a poor or opportune time or randomly guessed numbers on the lotto and won. That's luck in that you were fortunate to win or unfortunate to be in harms' way.
Leto, I like your answer. I couldn't have said it better myself =)
And that is exactly a key thing about luck. Considering th astronomical possibilities and such it's pure luck that even any of us are alive today :P
I do, just because of the way I was bought up, cultural and religious beliefs, and that some days are just full of bad luck. Like tonight and almost falling down some stairs, but luckily my footing managed to keep me in balance from not tumbling backwards...
i don't believe in it,but it's fun to sometimes treat life like luck exists, even tho it makes no sense
Almost any magical notion can be helpful for a time. God, demons, destiny, luck... it's okay to believe in any of that sh*t, for a time.
no, when things tilt favorably or unfavorably I consider it coincidence.
Nope. It's all up to science and the rest is chance.
Sounds to me like you don't believe in "God"... Luck on the other hand is just being fortunate. Nobody ever said something was controlling that, or helping you out. Personally, I believe in luck.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to assume you don't believe in God =(, it's just that you mentioned your idea of luck was something outside, helping you out. That just reminded me of God. I believe in luck, because sometimes everything just goes right for me, and others, bad. Hope that gives you a better idea of my philosophy? =)
I would argue that "physics benefiting you" IS luck. Like Leto said, being in the right place, at the right time. That happens by chance.
it's not a mystical force, but I do believe it exists... if I wasn't lucky, I'd have been dead by now...
time working out with physics to safe your ass is called luck :D
when your have a huge accident but none of the metal goes through your heart that's luck :)
when you guess the answers on a test and get a 93/100, that's luck :)
C'mon that's definitely not a coincidence, when you dodge sh*t in a split second that's freaking luck.
dude, why is it so hard for you to let people believe in luck? you don't feel lucky? xD
and by the way, magic is real, I'm not talking about card tricks and prestidigitation related stuff, I mean black magic!
No, I'm not lucky, I'm blessed!
I do. I believe successful people are successful through a combination of luck and hard work. some people are just so unfortunate.
becuse they were at the right place at the right time
not really. look at all those people who made millionaires during the housing boom. that was pure luck. pure luck that they happen to be in that time.
In my experience, there's no such thing as luck.
No I believe it is just coincidence and odds...
I believe in bad luck...that's all I can add to this discussion.
that's the same question I call out to the heavens everyday :-(
I believe in coincidence.
nope, not really.
