you may be having a reaction to either the foundation you are using or whatever product you are using to wash your makeup off with. if you are currently taking a medication or have had any skin treatments lately that may have caused the reaction with products you're using. if youve always used either your foundation or other skin product and never had a reaction then you know that's not likely the cause. it is not caused by the use of makeup over the years, this shouldn't be happening no matter how many years youve worn makeup for. also if you apply makeup with a brush make sure it is sterilized because bacteria can also cause reactions in your skin. p.s. if you slept with your makeup on it may have gotten into your pores and had adverse effects on it. besides this I would say it is about observation, what in your routine has changed lately?
p.s.s. always moisturize after you wash your face to prevent your skin from drying out and becoming dull and chapped (and feeling like sandpaper). if your skin is really dry, maybe go for an oil based moisturizer. if oil based tends to break you out regardless of how dry your skin is, go for water based.

probably the face wash you used is reacting badly with your skin. I would try a different one.
