How to stop being a backup girl?

Ok so there's this guy ever since i met him I've liked him and he liked we started talking and he showed me he really liked me we never really dated but we would fight a lot and stop talking and in that time we stoped talking he would have a gf or a girl that he was just talking to but see everytime he would have a fight with them he would come back to me or even if he had a gf and wouldn't be in a fight with her its like everytime he would get bored he would go back to me saying im the one he wants but now i get that im only he's backup girl and even knowing that if he starts talking all lovely to me again i can't help it but go along with it and the sad part he only does it for a day and the next day he puts a pic with the girl he's with and doesn't talk to me no more but then he does it again he talks to me tells
me he misses me and then the next day or next hours he stops talking to me and again he will put status or pics of the girl hea with what should i do i dont want to be the backup girl but i really like him actually just yesterday he was telling me he wanted to me he missed me and he wanted to see me and spent the night next to me hugging me all night blah blah and then he stops responding me and today he puts a pic of this other girl im really tired of this
