Driving is really difficult when you haven't done it before. I remember the first time I got behind the wheel of a car - it was only going at idling speed (maybe 10 mph), and I was freaking out about it. And don't even get me started on driving in traffic - super stressful. It's easiest, as other people have said, to get a feel for the car in a place where there isn't traffic or other things to run into - like a large empty lot or quiet residential street.
Really, it just takes lots of practice. My dad would make me drive everywhere when I first started learning - around town, on the highway, in really inclement weather, you name it - and I found it really stressful at the time, but it turned me into a pretty competent driver. Things will get better!

Aww,don't feel bad-all first time drivers suck. No worries, you'll get better, trust me.
When I first started(over 20yrs ago)I sucked but I got better by driving A LOT.
There was one time when I was merging onto the highway but forgot to slow down. I ended up spinning because I didn't slow down. Thankfully there wasn't anyone around.
A couple of years ago I decided to try parallel parking for the first time(I didn't have to on my driving test)and you know what? I did it perfectly because I had been driving for so long.
So relax and try not to worry so much.
Good luck!:)
Is everyone bad at driving when first starting out? Yup, most people are. Its one of those things where practice makes perfect. I actually hit a car during my driving lesson and still passed. Just relax and try to get some practice behind the wheel before you go out next time with your instructor.
yeah you need to get a feel for the vehicle someplace other than public roads like NonchalantBro said... also, to help you calm down, I recommend playing some music... lol I have to have music when I drive I get so bored... also try to find a comfortable position, don't let your body tense up, just relax and don't be scared to hold the wheel at something other than 10 and 2 when you are ready.. I find it an awkward position, I always have my left hand on top of the wheel, and my right arm rests on the center divider thing.. I use it to brace the wheel at times when going at high speed or around tight curves or when it's windy
your instructor sucks, first of all.
you should find an empty large parking lot somewhere or some desolate area with no traffic and just drive around to get a feel of the vehicle and get your hand-eye coordination down. having better control of a car takes time..first you just need to get out there and mess around without endangering anyone. after you feel you're comfortable controlling the car's movement then you can move on to learning the rules of the road and all that other sh*t

No. I was always good at driving. I suppose it's because I'm Awesome. My instructor actually asked me to give him tips on how to drive. :D I was like, "sure!"
*I took a blue USPS mail box while trying to park* :( You know the ones you put mail in.
&
*I almost took a few people at a bus stop. Thank god for the sidewalk it stopped me. :( They didn't even move! They just had this frightened look on their face like :O * :(
I've since then improved! :]
Good luck!you're there to learn how to drive, you are not a qualified driver yet so its expected that you will make mistakes. Part of making mistakes is learning from them, so take in what your instructor tells you and I'm sure U'll do fine :)
the best advice my instructor gave is " its better to do something wrong then not to do anything at all"hhahaha I've been driving for 4 years, I guarantee you drive MUCH better then me..
