*Hyperpigmentation = dark spots on face from excess melanin.
I had a lot of acne last year but now all of the pimples (except for a few) are gone and now my skin is smooth ... except it's totally red/pink and looks really bad.
Yep, I had terrible spots on my forehead from pimples and the sun.
A few months ago, I started using this product by Reversa (it's a Canadian brand). They offer an age-spot treatment for mornings containing 4% glycolic acid and a night cream that contains 8% glycolic acid. They started fading my spots instantly. It's a little expensive but worth it. You'll start seeing results within a week. Google it for reviews as well.
I also had a chemical peel done at the spa. They offer different types but the best ones contain AHA. Your skin could be a sensitive for a few days after though but they basically cause new skin cells to rapidly start multiplying and that fades the spots.
Also, from now on, use SPF 30 religiously and for the rest of your life (you'll look younger than anyone else once you hit 50). If you do all of what I mentioned, you may still end up with the spots back even if you spend like an hour in the sun without sunscreen. You can undo everything you've done so far so be very particular.
I've also heard good things about laser but the prices can start sky-rocketing since you need several sessions before you see any spots going away.
Yeah but I had a lot of acne last year and now that it's gone, I just have a bunch of redness on my cheeks =/ its smooth, but red. I don't really have any MAJOR pimples (maybe tiny ones) but just smooth skin that is red and looks patchy. I've been to a derm and he gave me pills and retin-a and I eat really healthy and all but it seems to be taking FOREVER to see any HUGE results! I've seen some change but not as much as I'd like to see.
Can you find a picture of what it looks like? Because hyperpigmentation usually looks like this:

Mine looks more like this: https://s1.hubimg.com/u/2107264_f520.jpg
(the one on the left) except a bit more pinkish. I'm a bit darker than the girl in the picture, though.
Then you're looking at general scars. I'd recommend the peel because that's what I was told to do by a friend who had scars. I'm not sure if Reversa would help you.
What do you mean by 'general scars' ?
General scars is what is seen on the picture on the left that you posted. That's what we usually end up with when you have bad cases of acne.
Oh, haha. Feel like an idiot now :P
But anyways, how was the chemical peel procedure done and how much did it cost you
It's different depending on where you go because how long they leave it on for depends on how strong the solution is.
It cost me $70 for an hour but it starts at $50 and can go up to $150 where I live (Western Canada). Your best bet is googling some spas around your area and seeing if they have a pice list or calling them.
My skin gets dark spots where my pimples used to be.. It takes a while for them to go away, six months upwards.. Get a good face cream that has pigmentation correction in it. And use makeup forever foundation (you can buy at sephora).. Best cover up.. covers anything
