Religion? Nah, It's Hate!

People hide hate and disguise this as part of religion.

I respect all religions and all people; Muslims, Jews, Christians, Catholics etc. However, I believe that some religions, Islam in particular is another way to justify hate, through religion. What I am trying to convey, is that because of the issues of territories/war, maybe even personal biases- religion is used as a cover up for justifications that are not legitimate.

For instance, I have met several students at my University that were conveying their opinions. They are practicing Muslims who follow the Koran. They were going on about the Israel-Arab conflict, and about World War II, the Holocaust etc. What I heard was absolutely astounding.

These students were talking about how Hitler's view of the Jews was spot on. They are greedy, and selfish and deserved what they got. They followed up with discussing that 6 million dead, was not enough as this is why there is a problem within the Israel-Arab conflict. It continued to much more vile things, that I simply cannot even describe here.

Towards the end of the discussion they quoted something from the Koran and ended their meeting. The one question that came to mind, is where in the Koran does it promote hating on the Jews? Where does it state that Jews are selfish and greedy and deserve to be exterminated in concentration camps? I'll tell you where, nowhere.

This just goes to show, that those who believe in hate towards Americans, Jews, Women, Christians- whoever it may be, are interpreting and conveying hate of their own, under the covers of Islam. I personally am disgusted.

Your point on Islam justifying hate through religion is pointless given several historical facts about other religions or current political and religious situation, such as Crusades, or treatment of Jews in Austro-Hungarian Empire, or during Holocaust, or current Palestine-Israel conflict and war crimes committed by Jews. So not only Islam try to justify hate through religion, they have been done in the past and being done currently by other religions as well.

Having no religion may also cause and justify hate, violence etc. Example, Bolshevik's Russia, many killed, vanished, and forced to their deaths in internment camps. Example, Mao's China, Christianity being outlawed in Japan in the past and Christians were persecuted and they tried to justify it through their "cultural roots" etc.

If a person is violent, his/her religion is violent. Example, KKK, ISIS... That does not include every single Muslim or Christian. If a person is peaceful, his/her religion is peaceful. In the end, it all comes down to people's violence nature, and how greedy politicians want the world to run with religion or without.

I am trying to explain that every religion at some point in their life cycle tried to justify the hatred or violence before they went through a reform. In this case christianity underwent reform thanks to scientific improvements in Europe but that doesn't mean that KKK was explainef through religion. Also, it explains islam needs to go through the same reform to stop justifying hate or violence.

While I despise Trump, and I recognize that all religions are evil to the extent that they advocate delusional thought, laud black/white thinking, and punish rational thought, I dislike self-delusion more.

If you read the teachings of the various prophets/founders/archtypes of the major religions with an honest eye, you will immediately note that no other contemporary major religion advocates the death and subjugation of non-believers to the extent that Islam does. Search the New testament as you like, read Buddha's teachings, recite Confucius however you want, you will not find one tenth as many direct admonitions by any of the "prophets/gods" to kill, enslave, and tax unbelievers as you will find I Islam's surahs.

Apologists will say that Mohammad didn't mean *all* unbelievers, that he was just referring to a specific group of unbelievers in a specific place at a specific time. My response is twofold. First he said it. Not only did he say it, but he said it many times in many ways. Kill them, rape the women, enslave them, tax them. Second, re-intepretation is a wonderful thing. Once you accept the initial lie, anything can be proved. Essentially reinterpretation is just advanced lying.

Faith (notice how I don't use the word "religion") can be used or abused. It's an extremely powerful motivator in either direction. I believe this is for two reasons:

1. Humans naturally fear death. We want to believe there is an afterlife.

2. All humans want their to be a "reckoning" for the good and evil done in this world. We want to believe that good person will be rewarded or an evil person will be punished.

I come from a Christian upbringing. I have seen both sides of the spectrum, but in my biased opinion Christianity has brought more good in this world than pain (I remember my liberal HS teacher saying "Christianity kills" that ready made me angry). Just look at all charitable initiatives, homeless shelters and relief efforts. Some of them are atheist but the vast majority have Christian influences.

As for the issue on Islam. It's easy to hate on these people and for legitimate reasons. However there are over a billion muslims in this world. If they wanted to kill us all we would all be dead already. With that said I believe Islam not to be put on the spot to "cleanse" extremists in their own faith. They are doing some work on this, but not enough.

Not all Muslims believe those things, just like not all Christians are fundamentalists or advocate hate or violence toward other religions, and the same is true of every religion. Have religious people done terrible things in the name of religion? Yes, but they have generally been extremist views shared by a small portion of the religion.
