5 Myths and the 5 Truths Behind "Islamic Terrorism"

So today I was casually searching through my twitter feed and I see something about ISIS and all the comments say "All Muslims are terrorists! Send them back!" or the occasional "Fucking towel heads need to die!" (not being racist, just quoting what the comment said). It saddens me to see the Islamic community get so much hate over these terror attacks that have been happening. Today, i'm going to expose the myths and tell the truths about these terror groups. Please note that I am not a Muslim myself, so I am not an expert on the Qu'ran. Let's get right into this

MYTHS

1. All Muslims are terrorists.

This is completely and utterly false. In fact, Islam is one of the most peaceful religions in the world and also the fastest growing. If every Muslim was a terrorist, all the other religions would be extinct. In fact, out of the estimated one billion Muslims in this world, less than 1% (.000697 or something like that) identify as extremists.

2. Muslim terrorists always kill any non Muslim.

This is also false. In fact, terror groups like ISIS kill Muslims ALL THE TIME. Their cause isn't to preserve the whole entire Muslim community, it's to preserve their believe in Sharia law (I think I spelled that right). Muslim terror groups kill innocent lives because they don't like one thing, modernization. Internet, newer and faster cars, technologically advanced homes, advanced school systems, girls wearing more revealing clothing, all are apart of this idea of modernization in which Islamic terror groups hate. They want to resort back to the older days of Sharia law where women are oppressed and there is no such thing as modernization, everything would be the same as it was when the prophet Muhammad was alive. Extremists will go as far as to KILL innocent civilians that they believe are "changing with the times". That is why peaceful Muslims are being killed.

3. America is the reason we have Islamic terror groups

It irritates me when I read comments from people of different countries saying "America is the reason we have Islamic terror groups! It's their government's fault!" This is only 1% true. Islamic terrorism was created BEFORE Americans even set foot on middle eastern soil. This is how Islamic terrorism was created. I don't know the details and exact dates so bear with me here. A guy from the middle east came to the United States and saw how modernized it was compared to the middle east. He hated it and everything that had to do with modernization because of his strict belief in the Qu'ran.

When he went back to his home country, he wrote books about his experience in the U.S, which sold a lot of copies and moved a lot of Muslims to believe that modernization was bad. Because of this, citizens didn't trust their American-backed leaders and riots formed to remove them and for the leaders who the CIA believed was incapable of running a country, was removed, which sparked outrage by the public who believed that MODERNIZATION was bad, not America itself. This lead to stuff like the Iranian crisis in 1979 and the formation of these terror groups. Eventually, people started realizing that it was stupid to hate on modernization because it's a part of evolution and people who hated on modernization (I.e. Islamic terror groups) became the minority.

Now, the 1% of the reason why it's america's fault is because we gave the terror groups weapons and training. This was because of our fear of communism during the world war and the Soviet Union was trying to spread it's communism to the middle east and terror groups didn't like communism (the enemy of my enemy is our friend theory). Since terror groups like Bin Laden's Al Qaeda wasn't a threat back then, we gave them weapons and training to kick the Soviets out, which worked. So because of doing that, we beefed up the terror groups that now hate us, but we never created them. So stop blaming America for the creation of these Islamic terror groups.

4. America is the only target for Islamic terror groups

This is also false. If America was the only target, then why did we have terror attacks in England, France, Belgium, and all over the middle east? It's cause we aren't the ONLY target. Like i said before, these "Islamic terror groups" (notice how put it in quotation marks, because they really don't represent Islam, but they kinda do, I'll explain later) want to eliminate modernization. America isn't the only place in the world that modernization occurs. Actually it occurs all over the world (except certain countries like North Korea), so basically most countries, with the exception of a few, are a target for terror groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda. Scary thing right? Well this next point i'll talk about may soothe your nerves

5. Terror attacks are common

Terror attacks are very rare. I'm not going to go into statistics about how rare terror attacks are, but they are rare. Yes, they are scary. Things like the Orlando night club shooting make us wonder when the next attack will be and how scary it will be when it happens, but these attacks don't happen often.

TRUTHS

1. Islamic terror groups do SOMEWHAT represent Islam.

Despite what avid Muslims say, that "ISIS and other terror groups don't represent Islams at all!", They actually somewhat do, yet not really (I know i'm making it sound confusing). The leaders of these terror groups are Muslims, but they are MISGUIDED Muslims who believe that we must have Sharia law and no modernization to keep the religion alive and well. The militants they recruit, however, are mainly not Muslim.

In fact, terror group recruiters prefer it that the recruits AREN'T Muslim, because if they were, they would know that what they are doing is backwards. So these recruits are naive men and women who believe what they are doing represents Islam, because that is what their manipulative leaders are telling them when in reality it doesn't represent Islam at all. Islamic terror groups do read the Qu'ran and even recite some passages from the Qu'ran, which would somewhat make them Islamic, but for the wrong reasons.

2. This "war on terror" is never ending

This is more of an opinion coming from me. I believe that this war on terror will never end. Here's why. It takes years to kill of a terror group. You have to find where their base of operations are, their training camps, and other secret locations that the terror groups may have. Then, you gotta send troops to scope those places out and see if they are legit. This process takes probably about a year to a year and a half to do because they have to make sure it's legit so that innocent lives aren't lost. Then, you gotta take out the leaders so that they can start the process of becoming a corrupt terror group with no leader or a weak leader. This whole things takes YEARS to do.

The U.S has been fighting Al Qaeda since 2001 and Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda, was killed in 2011. That is a 10 year difference. After that Al Qaeda faded into the dust. They are still a terror group and still do terror stuff, but aren't as powerful as they were back in 2001. ISIS is even harder because of their online presence. ISIS is a mainly an internet based terror group who use hard to crack encryption codes to plan their attacks. It's kind of ironic to me that ISIS is trying to kill off modernization, but they use the most modernized thing in this world to get their message across, the internet.

It get's even harder that they have bases in Syria. Syria has it's own democratic government and it's hard (at least for the U.S it is), to strike their because Syria has their own American backed government. Syria is a corrupt country, especially during the civil war that they are having, but it's still an American backed government with a democratic system in place. What we are doing now with all the drone strikes and taking down ISIS websites is only going to slow down the the terrorism, but not end it. Once ISIS fades, a new terror group will emerge. This is because ISIS militants have sons and they teach their sons the ways of ISIS and the sons become terrorists too. It's a war George Bush should of thought through before coming to his final decision of going to war.

3. Muslims in the middle east are actually HELPING Americans fight against ISIS and other terror groups.

There are plenty of Muslim groups who believe what ISIS and other Islamic terror groups are doing is wrong and are willing to fight for peace alongside Americans. It sure doesn't help them when people like Donald Trump want to stop immigrating Muslims into the U.S, which kinda brings us into our next point.

4. There is no way you can tell an Islamic terrorist from a regular peaceful Muslim

Unless they have "I pledged my allegiance to ISIS" tattooed onto their forehead, there is no way to tell the difference between an ISIS militant and a peace Muslim. This is because ISIS militants and peaceful Muslims wear the same clothes as everyone else in this world. It is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to spot a terrorist just by looking at them, so we need to stop seeing an peaceful Muslim person and automatically think that they are a terrorist.

The only way to stop terror attacks from happening in the U.S is stricter gun laws. That's it. It's quite ridiculous to get rid of all Muslims when most of them have nothing to do with these terror groups. It's like this. Pretend that you are in a room and there is a door across that room and in that other room where the door is, there are 50 dogs. Now 5 of those dogs want to attack you, the other 45 are peaceful and friendly. Donald Trump's theory is to never open that door. Yes, this will not allow those 5 dogs that want to attack you, but what about the 45 others that don't?

But also if you let the door open for all the dogs, those 5 dogs will attack you. There is no way to detect what 5 dogs are going to attack you. But, what if you did a background check on all the dogs. You'll see that those 5 dogs are there to attack you based on who the owner was and how they were raised. Same way with stricter gun laws. They already do background checks, but it should be stricter. Right now, basically anyone can go in and buy a gun, pretty scary thought.

5. We are making progress with ending terrorism

This is going to contradict what I said in point number 2, but we are making progress. Islamic terrorism is on the decline, actually terrorism in general is on the decline. I don't believe the war on terror will end, but progress is being made to slowly stop terrorism.

Extra point: Not all terrorists are Muslim

Thought I would make this an extra point. Not all terrorists are Muslim. There are terrorist for all types of religions around the world. And for those who say that "terror has no religion" Yes it does, the motive for these terror attacks are for their twisted belief of their religion. Even if the terrorist is atheist, he's doing it because he believes that there is no god so there is no need to feel sorry for himself if he kills anyone.

So in conclusion, I'm tired of people saying that all Muslims are terrorist when in reality that is not the case. I hope this myTake spreads throughout GaG so that ignorant and uneducated people will learn. In fact, spread this take everywhere, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, MySpace (if you still use that) let everyone know about this. Together we can end racism and end ignorance.

Well IRA, Black Panthers, KKK, Skinheads, Phineas Priesthood, Jewish Defense League, Earth Liberation Front, Army of God, Animal Liberation Front, Black Liberation Army, The Crips etc are all considered terrorist groups some are religious some are not. The only thing terrorism requires is fanatasiscm of an ideology not necessarily religious. As for ISIS, no they are not muslim you pretty much pointed that out so I don't know why you doubled back and said they where, the reason they go for those who are illiterate is so the person cannot read the quran and discover that the quran expressly forbids violence except in self defense. Its primary goal has nothing to do with religion it has to do with power. When the ottoman empire collapsed it left a huge power vaccum, this was at the end of world war 2. So soviets and the west, primarily america started putting people in power that favored them irregardless of how those people may treat the populace, hence why the middle east despite being the most progressive society for thousands of years ended up being one of the most backwards, because of huge economic collapse, dictatorships etc. This allowed for sharia law to be enacted (which actually goes against many muslim tennents technicly and thus is not a muslim belief (just more politics)) because it allowed for order (a very restrictive order). This is being used to manipulate the populace for political reasons, their is to date few muslim terrorist groups that are about converting or destroying nonbelievers, its about power. By commiting acts of terror they are able to gain "legitiamcy" showing that they are feared and thus powerful in order to get new recruits and more influence which translates to more power.

You made great points in your opinion and I learned from it, but some stuff I disagree. For one, those groups that you mentioned that aren't religious-backed are not considered "terror groups" in my eyes. The crips are a gang. Gangs don't kill innocent civilians unless there was a drug deal gone wrong or a bank robbery gone wrong, or something that goes wrong where they need to. Or the civilians simply get caught in the cross fire. The black panthers aren't religious back, and I don't remember them killing anyone, but yet I may be wrong. If they did, they killed people of Caucasian decent because of their belief that white people are bad. That, in my vocabulary, wouldn't necessarily categorize as "terrorism". Terrorism in my vocabulary is when multiple people of multiple different backgrounds are killed by a militant of some sort of group for a "religious reason". As for the part I said about ISIS, I said that the leaders of ISIS are Islamic, but the recruits are not.

The leaders have misinterpreted the Qu'ran to believe that the prophet Muhammad wanted this to happen and so did Allah. The recruits, on the other hand, are what you said, illiterate non-Muslims who are told the MISINTERPRETED version of the Qu'ran by these leaders. You are also right about power. Islamic terror groups want power so they can spread their message of their misinterpreted version of the Qu'ran and make it so that sharia law exists all throughout the Middle East.

Thats what the FBI considers them, most likely because they will commit acts of violence for those entering their territory. The IRA has performed bombings and attacks so they do qualify as terrorist groups in that respect. Same goes with the various other non religious ones. The only thing terrorist have in common is they kill seemingly indescriminatly as a means of placing fear into the populace in order to push their own agendas. So bombings killings etc are all apart of that. Same with KKK, they burned crosses and killed and lynched all in an attempt to foster fear for their own agenda. Ideology is the key not religion. So my point was that it isn't actually religiously motivated in any way even when its "religious". For instance the actual definition of terrorism is : the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. As such plenty of groups are terrorists, we just say they don't count becaues they are not religious despite exhibiting the exact same behavior.

Like I said the quran doesn't state you should convert other, in fact it says the exact opposite multiple times even going so far as stating that if allah wanted every one to be muslim they would be muslim so they where expected to respect the differences because it was allah's will. As I said it has little to nothing to do with religion everything to do with politics. Religion has been used as an excuse for politics since pretty much the begining. For instance when pharaos claimed to be decendents of gods it wasn't for religious reasons, it was political, it was a warning to obey their politicians. Same goes for christianity. This is no different, in fact that is the biggest issue with religion is that people are unable to discern where the religion ends and the politics begin. If they believed this is what allah wanted then they would be using the quran to push that point yet they actively seek out children and the ones who cannot verify what they say in order to manipulate them. Also as you yourself pointed out if this was part of their religious convictin why are the majority of their victims muslims? That runs counter to that reasoning. If it was for religious reasons then they would only target non muslims yet the only time they target foreign powers, non muslims is as a show of power to increase recruitment into their ranks, otherwise they stick to terrorizing their own people in their own countries which just conviently gains them political power by bullying the very people they should be, by your and others reasonings, be siding with. Stricter gun laws only affects law-abiding citizens. If terrorists don't represent all Muslims, why do they represent all gun owners? The vast majority of gun owners in the US are not criminals. Making it harder for me to buy a gun legally won't stop the next terrorist who wants to shoot up a public space (most of which, happens in "gun-free zones" by the way).

Also, not all terrorists use guns. 9/11 and Oklahoma City were two of the most fatal terrorist attacks on American soil, one was caused by planes and the other was a bomb. Putting the blame solely on guns and coming up with more laws as a means of stopping terrorism just seems very misguided to me.

Stricter gun laws was just one way of controlling terror attacks and really any attack in general. We also need to buff up our baggage and shipment checks so that we can identify if bombs and illegal weapons are being smuggled in.

Cities like Chicago have some of the strictest gun laws in the country, and also the highest gun crime rates. So no, that definitely won't help control terrorism. I'm not informed enough to comment on baggage issues and how airports handle that though. I've never even been on a plane myself so I don't know how that works.

That is incorrect, the equal protection clause prevents the government from making a law that applies to you, but not to me.

The President has very broad leeway in enforcing immigration policy and part of that leeway includes saying certain people are not allowed in. The 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act grants the power to close the borders to these certain people and that power has been used by every President since at least Jimmy Carter. In fact Jimmy Carter used it in a way that is pretty much exactly the same as the way Trump has suggested.

Radical muslims identify as true muslims. But let's check an actual source to get an idea. How about American muslims? You know, muslims living in the first world, not some backwater islamic nation like Turkey or Saudia Arabia.

I have read all the opinions on this and there have been a few GAG WARS on the the topic.
I am a Muslim but I am not at all religious because almost all the laws in Islam are stupid. For example, a girl can't go on a date. WTF is this, why can't a girl go on a date... A boy or a girl can't have a crush on somebody... It sounds like love is not allowed in Islam.
The laws on how a girl should dress are foolish. A girl should wear a long robe type black clothing called Abaya, gloves and a veil. No part of her body should be revealed exposed except her eyes.
This is damn foolish, who are they to say what a girl should wear or not wear... It's the woman's wish wants she wants to wear and she should be allowed to wear everything and anything she wants.
Listening to music and watching movies or videos of any sort are not allowed. It feels like entertainment is foreign to the life of a Muslim.

I feel that if a person is broad-minded enough, he won't abide by the laws of Islam.
Noticing what the world of today's has become, a person can't survive by abiding by all the laws of Islam. If a person follows all the laws the only result he would get is depression and anxiety as he would be totally different from the other people of the world.
Some people say that some of the nicest people they ever met are Muslims. They say this because the Muslims they have met are the Muslims who don't follow the laws strictly.
If we want to be successful in this world, we wholeheartedly should make the decisions. Nobody has the right to impose which decision we should take in our lives, even religion.

No they haven't. In fact the middle east during the reign of islam was not only at peace for the most part (most places have war and with the crusades invading the middle east thats really not the fault of muslims) and in fact where some of the most progressive thinkers and soceity out their at the time. Algebra comes from the middle east (they codified mathmatical principles in fact you can still see it in its name Al-gebra) so did the beginings of science in the form of alchemy (again al-chemy) where we get the term chemistry and in fact they created the first version of the scientific method. In fact that claim is made only in an attempt to dismiss the middle east when ironicly it was actually suprising well off and influential to the rest of the world at the time. I mean if you look at the US they have had a war almost every ten years, same goes for many countries.

Islam is a religion stuck in the 7th century in the Middle East and parts of Asia. Sorry I should of clarified this a bit more. In the western world, terror attacks aren't common. In the Middle East, it's a bit more common but it's not something that happens every day and also in the Middle East, the death toll seems to be higher than attacks in the western world.
