And could you describe the type of guy you are? player? nice guy etc?
Is the website "the chive" sexist/degrading of women?
And could you describe the type of guy you are? player? nice guy etc?
This topic has been on my mind lately. It astonishes me as I am finding these pictures offensive & damaging to relationships more & more as I am older... Why do men keep on looking @ these objectifying images with no concern, thought and respect for women? What are the true costs of this behaviour to your relationships? And why do women / girls ( even the now 15 year olds who I use 2 baby sit) keep putting these types of pictures for social approval from peers & mostly men? p*rn culture effects you & your personal life & it's all accessible at a stroke of a key. Even the smallest child has access to a parents / sibling smart phone & surrounded by screens & can easily access this damaging stuff. What does this say about our societal values when it's not even questioned and now it is the "mainstram norm"
...
I get it; this seems great for guys, a couple of funny internet pictures and semi nude girls; GREAT. I wouldn’t care so much if it were normal p*rn star, nude shooting pics. But what drives me crazy is that “normal” girls share their own pictures and they are proud of it. Why would you degrade yourself so much that all you want is attention from some gross internet guys or a man your dad's age? The only way you can get attention is by showing your boobs? I simply don’t understand.
Ever seen a half naked guy with a Chive shirt? Nope they are never that "cool" or measured by the unrealistic and comprimising standard that women are subjected to. The Chive is an internet platform & sub culture for men that mostly features young woman, almost nude or with a focus on their boobs or/and asses and some of the usual “funny” marketable internet pictures. This is not just about the Chive but the widely accepted culture of p*rn and objectifying women where we have somehow accepted this as a societal norm.
Now those girls are going to say that they are proud of their bodies, worked hard etc (I would say at least half of the boobs shown are fake and the rest are pushed
(I would say at least half of the boobs shown are fake and the rest are pushed up with ridiculous push up bras) which is in so many ways bad and damaging. Not only is there nothing to be proud of when you can’t accept your own body and need plastic surgery to get over it, you are not going to get higher self-esteem out of this… But also the image you promote for other girls, younger ones, ones with a body just like you, but they didn’t pose with their camera for 3 hours to get that one perfect ass picture to send in with a desperate need for attention. And the worst of it all is that by doing this you actually create an image of girls bodies that doesn’t exist. You create an image for guys that aren’t realistic and at the same times you say its “ok” to do so. It disappoints me to see that so many girls / women are willing to do this and think that this is something they can show off with.
And don't even get me started on the guys on the CHIVE website. SO many racist, awful, sexist co
Yes, the Chive is sexist and degrading towards woman and has been getting worse lately.
It's not so much the pictures that bother me as it is the comments and the attitudes that the men display towards the subjects in the pictures. They either comment about wanting to bang or screw one of the girls, or note on how "bang worthy" a girl is or isn't. Just the other day I noticed people commenting on a slightly overweight girl, saying she was a butterface, a slumpbuster, or that they should just put a bag over her head. SERIOUSLY disrespectful. And then yesterday Chive crossed the line by posting not once, but TWICE a picture that made a reference towards raping a woman, and the majority of the commenters thought it was funny. The Chive is reenforcing the objectification of woman as well as the rape culture aspect. I enjoy the funny pictures they post, I just wish they were more respectful towards women.
I completely agree! Love they're funny osts but hate their attitude toward women. It's discusting
Well said.
I'm cool with the funny pictures etc but from my standpoint (being that I'm a girl) I absolutely hate their posts that are about women. Yes, many people might say I'm just "jealous" of how hot those girls are or the attention etc. No... I'm not. It sickens me that it's becoming so socially acceptable to objectify women. Not only that, but they also only post pictures of mostly naked women and ones that generally have an unreachable weight to the general population. They even have perverted themed days of these pictures. "Mind the Gap" (I think that's Wednesdays?). Their only redeeming quality is that they made a site called theBerry which occasionally objectifies men in the same way with themed days like "Shirtless Friday"... seriously?
I like the Chive website. They post some funny and awesome pictures. But I have a problem with the whole chivette aspect to the site. Girls send in pictures of themselves to this site as a kind of offering much like a girl at a concert that flashes the band. I also don't like how the site is making money off posting the pictures that the girls send in of themselves. If they're going to do it then why not be honest about it? Like one of the other commentors pointed out the site is much like a mens magazine. But the Chive is trying to act like they are more sophisticated than a mens magazine like FHM or Maxim. This comment is far more negative than I wanted it to be, but although I like the website I also dislike some of the things they do. Also I'm not sure I love or loath the kcco, pay it forward, aspect of the site. I like the idea of paying it forward, but I don't think that people should only do it to people who like the Chive website.
Wow, great answer. I completely agree! BA
I feel like most guys answers skirt the real question about if it objectifies women. Yes, obviously it's taylored towards men , and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy many of the "chivettes" pictures. My short answer is yes, they objectify women. Although much of the content is user generated and submitted, the chive creates many photo shoots and videos that show models/girls mostly nude in tons of precarious situations and poses. Again, I am a product of my environment so I enjoy it from time to time, but sometimes it's a little too much and I find I enjoy the "other" posts and videos more, often times ignoring the cute girl albums. It's not like a dating site where we have the opportunity to talk to the girls we see on there so I don't see much purpose to it. At least the other content makes you think, laugh, cry etc.

I definitely think it is degrading to women. The rest of the site if funny but these compilations of scantily clad women is objectifying. Further proven in the comments where the men refer to their "favorites" by #s. What's sad is that a lot of the men commenting have photos of girlfriends, wives, or even children. What a horrible example to set for the future generation than to reduce a woman to a nameless body for male viewing pleasure.
I think it is, my son is dating a girl who posts her pics all the time. I think less of her because she likes all the gross sexual commeents from men. She craves it. Discusting.
I agree with Bob, it's just tailored to guys like a men's mag is. Well, that site got "favourited" lol.. ex-player... now mostly nice guy.
Well its girls showing their ass and tits, sometimes you'll see their faces but usually it's just their bodies. This is not new, men love looking at women and these women are letting them look. They send in the pics themselves no one forces them. It's digrading and objectives women makes me as a women sad that somenfemales think thats all we have to offer. But it's not new, women like to feel sexy and men like looking at women, it will never change.
No, I don't think so, but I have to say that the website is definitely geared towards men.
Well I just browsed that website, but many website publishes photos which deals with girls in just to get noticed.
i am a Good guy ^^
if chive would not have these women, the chive would not exist. that is the main driver to the site. everything else is just copy and pasted form other sites
It's annoying...I think it would do better without all that crap. Usually the guys that are on that site tend to be fat douche bags that have no girl friends...lol
No, It is not. Men like looking at beautiful girls, and these girls like showing the men. Calm the fuck down...
Yeah it is. It objectifies women.
I completely agree with everyone's (women & some men's) posts. But I think what everyone is forgetting is that the chive is allowing this to happen. They base their site to be a donation and helpful site when in fact it is more and more like porn every day. If all sites would get up the courage and quit allowing this smut to be posted our children would not learn about the birds and the bees from this crap but instead from the proper sources as it should be. Also these girls should have more couth than they do. All they want is the attention and comments to help them feel better because 100% of them are probably hoes and for good reason. Ever hear of leave it to the imagination ladies and this is what gets the heads to wonder and ponder of men. Leave this for your man not the world have more respect for yourself and others!
