Should I use: the Basketcase (Schizotypal Personality Disorder) OR the Criminal (Antisocial Personality Disorder)?
Other characters could work, but those two have the most symptoms that can be seen more obviously.
I prefer Alison, I think she is more complex, like she might not have a condition as such, more just at a loss of how to get attention. Her character (like Bender's but to a stronger degree) seems to be shaped by her life at home and school, but it's not as obvious or stereotypical as the criminal one.
But then again, the treatment thing would be easier for Bender. I think, the criminal would be *easier* but the basketcase would be more interesting and complex, and could go beyond the stereotype/cliché with only the info you have.
You took the words right out of my mouth. That's exactly why I have such a touch choice between the two. My professor loved the movie I decided to use, and she thinks either would be good to write about, so I didn't get much help there. haha
Well, do you want to do something easier or something more engaging/challenging? If this is something you're passionate about or want to look into, go for the difficult one. If it's just something you have to do, do the easy one :) Good luck with it, sounds like a fun assignment
I would do the criminal. I think he's hilarious, but that probably doesn't count. I think his personality and his past make a lot of sense, but then again so do hers. I have a feeling you're going to pick the girl though.
I love that movie.
I'd go for the girl in black, forgot the name, but the silent one until she screamed - she always was my favorite :-)
She's got the darkest past, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation - plus I believe more and more people are going through this stage at least once in their lives..
Her name was Alison Reynolds, the basketcase. lol. They don't really mention her name much. But yes, I'm leaning a little bit more toward using her. I just wanted to see what others might be able to say about both of those characters.
Without any pretention of knowing anything about what you're studying, I'd see the big difference is that the criminal is having a coping by expressing violently externally (against society etc), while the schizotypal is takes a switching stance against her internal emotions (so against herself mostly - didn't she cut/burn herself?). With an increasing massive, vague or moderated input of info towards each of us, it's difficult to cope with it internally first, before expressing externally...
N/A. That movie sucked, mainly because of the annoying emo characters. I can't begin to spew my disgust for that movie.
Analyze someone from a good movie, like Simba from the Lion King.
