Why don't migrants just be happy they are in a free country instead of trying to make things difficult?

The thing is, if you cross illegally into another country you are in no position to make demands. Anyplace else you would be in prison/gulag, or worse.

Of course. The problem is most of what right wing media calls "illegals" are actually legal asylum seekers waiting for their trial date. And thanks to Republicans killing the border bill that would have would have increased the number of immigration judges and lawyers by an order of magnitude, those trial dates are backlogged for months. If that bill had passed the max estimated time for an asylum seeker to wait for their trial would have been less than two days - not an accident as three days is the maximum amount of time anyone in the US can be held without being charged with anything. In other words, on top of everything else the border bill would have accomplished, it also would have put a permanent end to the "catch and release" practice. But Trump knew if it passed he would have nothing to campaign on so he begged senate Republicans to kill it..

There are millions of so called "asylum seekers" in the US. Just how many judges do you think there are? And come on, no one believes they are all here seeking asylum. Especially the cartels, sex traffickers, felons from Venezuelan prisons, military age men from China, etc. Surely there are some that are here for asylum, but none of them are in a position to make these bull shit demands. I'm sure some immigration lawyer put them up to it.

Again, the bipartisan border bill would have alleviated a lot of that. It's weird that people who claim to care about it the most don't condemn Trump for openly begging Republicans to kill it by whining he would have nothing to campaign on if it passed.
