Why the Internet Generates Hate

Let's be honest here, people feel braver and are more inclined to say whatever they want while hiding away under the anonymity of the internet. Things that one would never say to another face to face, is now being said to someone in a message, post, vlog- picture caption?

So here is my suggestion: if someone is being targeted, bullied, harassed etc, it should be that person's right to go to the authorities and have them uncover the person's identity. This person in turn should either be blocked from using internet on their devices for a period of time, or pay restitution for the emotional distress caused to the other person.

Teenagers are committing suicide! This is not a joke, and unless cyber bullying gets taken seriously, the internet is just aiding in spreading the hate. So many times, someone will gang up on a poor soul and bully them and call them names and push them down- and no one does anything about it. This is purely wrong.

If people knew that behind their words and actions they would have to bear the repercussions and consequences of what they said and did, and that hiding away on the internet would not protect them- this would solidify a stronger and safer environment for everyone.

That isn't how you deal with this issue.

When trying to protect someone, you don't wrap the entire world in foam rubber. You teach the individual how to protect themselves or how to cope with adversity.

Turning the entire internet into a fascist dictatorship isn't going to solve anything. Especially when crybabies would attempt to report every single person that merely disagrees with them. Paying restitution? Please. That would be massively abused to the point that no one would interact on the internet anymore.

You say this stuff never happens face to face, but it does. This is reality. People are bullied all the time and always have been. The parents should take more responsibility in raising their children with the tools to combat hardships and shitty, hateful people.

In real life, they can't always escape confrontation. They certainly can online. People can turn their devices off or block people or avoid certain websites.

If someone is committing suicide over a mean gag comment, then they had much deeper psychological issues that were completely out anyone's control. If it was being taken to an extreme extent, then yes I would agree. I think people are all too often throwing out the term bullying now n days.

On the one hand, even authorities, or rather the IT-experts among them, have their challenges to really find such people. On the other hand, I mean, do they actually stay "anonymous" if you dared them to show up at your house? I had some bullies (one of them was a female stalker of mine) actually show up at my house, and I mustn't tell you here what I'd have done to them (they wouldn't have returned home anymore...)

No the authorities are the biggest bullies out there. Simply find a site where you can block the people you do not like. A site like GAG works well. people get kicked off if they start bullying people.
