Ex sent friend request on Facebook and then deleted the request. why?

Ex-bf and I broke up a few months ago. My phone had a notification that he sent me a friend request but then deleted the request not long after. I was going to accept it too because I was glad we could be on good terms again. Why did he send it and delete it?

He was thinking of you and probably wanted to catch up or see how you were doing... Preferably if you are still. But had a change of heart and remembered as to why you two did not work out in the first place.

Maybe he accidentally did it, or he's like me - I sent one to my ex but got nervous that he would reject it and block me so I deleted it within a few minutes.

He probably regrets it and still may have feelings or it could be an accident or he did that on purpose to get your attention
