How do I know if I should try to fix things with my ex and start a relationship with her?

You don't know and you can never know, what you can know is these following things

How have you changed as a person
How had she changed as a person
Was the break up mutual or the fault of one person
Was the breakup your fault or hers
What caused the breakup

When you answer these for yourself you'll know if it's worth giving it another shot. if however she caused the breakup through infidelity then you have to ask yourself if your willing to risk being in that position all over again when you could be better off single or with somebody else.

Personally I tend to think that an ex is an ex for a reason and it's wise to keep it like that. I have found in the past that even though I may have changed and the ex may have changed getting back with them leads to old habits and then you both quickly change back into how you were when you first broke up, leading to breaking up all over again

The biggest thing to me is to really consider how compatible you two are and if you feel strongly, I would think about how big the issues are.

Ask yourself these questions :
Is it possible to fix the problems you had with her? Can you accept that some of her behaviors will never change? Do you see your future with her only? Even if you should decide by yourself : what your friends and relatives were saying about her before all these problems?
It will help you to see which way to go.
