TL;DR: my ex and i have been seeing each other for the past few months. he says he doesn’t want a relationship but essentially wants me to be exclusive to him. i want to be with him but am not going to be told what to do without the commitment.
Long story short, my ex [M25] and i [F22] have been seeing each other for some time now.
Although I’m not 100% sure I want a relationship with anyone at the moment, I can see myself being with him. After our breakup and situations that have happened in the past, I told him that if he started seeing someone else, that would be fine but that I would choose to move on from him.
He often tells me that he doesn’t want to be in a relationship and that I can see whoever I want. However, recently he’s been expressing that if I go out on dates with other people or start seeing other people he doesn’t want to see me anymore. I told him that this is literally what an “exclusive relationship” consists of but he just says that he doesn’t want a relationship.
I don’t want to be with someone that doesn’t want to be with me, but every time I mention that maybe we shouldn’t see each other he freaks out and doesn’t want that to happen. he tells me he loves me and i’m important to him but I don't know.
I’m assuming his last relationship messed him up a bit but I am not in the business of fixing men.
All in all. I’m just looking for words of encouragement. He’s been a great friend to me in the last few months and I’m just very confused.
