Can't really say but he/she should start from somewhere if they're willing to earn trust back (not necessary phone messages)
clear communication also matters a lot
It's possible to rebuild a relationship after a breach of trust if both parties are willing to put in the effort

They said I love you and miss you to each other and had hours of video calls everyday for two months while he was away for work and ignored the wife except when he had to talk to her. That is an affair.

My ex had an online affair and I asked to see their chat logs even thought it hurt a lot but it gave me a lot of closure and helped me move on from it. He was also very willing to share everything with me which made me feel like he was actually remorseful and wasn’t trying to hide anything else from me.
