Why would my ex tell me that he wishes we could meet again, and that he thinks of me all the time, then stops reading or replying my messages?

My ex who we were each other's first love, had a conversation after years of separation, during this conversation he told me that he wishes he could hug me and meet me again, and that he couldn't forget me and is always thinking of the time we were together and always thinks of me, he also said that he wishes we could meet soon, then suddenly stopped reading my messages or replying :/ messenger doesn't show when was the last time he was online, and no more updates on his fb profile, no posts or nothing. I find it so strange and I can't understand why would he stop talking suddenly after he said many romantic things..
