Should I feel bad for breaking up with him because I couldn't handle his outbursts?

I was talking to this guy for a few months, and he is a heavy smoker, both with weed and cigarettes. He mentioned that because he is trying to quit smoking, he gets angry and agitated quickly. Unfortunately, his outbursts became verbally abusive, which overwhelmed and frustrated me. I communicated my concerns to him, but his response was, "I have told you how to be with me." His behavior significantly worsened my depression, and I found it increasingly difficult to cope with his anger.
