What do men mean when they say, “It’s cheaper to keep her”?

I’m not saying divorces are easy. But, I want to know what goes on through men’s minds when they say that. Like, why are refusing to let your wife go when you’re not happy with her anymore? What if she wants to leave you? Would you refuse and intentionally make it harder for her to leave? Or are you hoping she makes the first move? I just need more insights on this saying.

Because it's easier to ignore her than to sign divorce papers and now she gets half your money. So it's cheaper to just keep buying her stuff and not really care what she does.

I knew a guy who bought an apartment building and made her the landlord so that by the time she got around to divorcing him, he was able to just leave her the business and he got to keep his money.

It’s a problem with narcissists who use someone they marry someone they never even loved to start with to use them.

It would be better to divorce but they don’t think like normal people. They have something not connected in their heads.

It usually means that she's content or happy in the relationship, but he isn't. The husband could be getting neglected, used, disrespected, etc., but if he leaves, then he'll have to pay out a big sum of money and lose what he has worked for. So, he stays in a relationship that he dislikes or even hates, because continuing to pay her (money, attention, labor) is cheaper than leaving.

When a guy goes through a divorce , especially if there are kids involved he usually experience financial ruin. More than one guy had to move back in with their parents.
