Would you bring your partner to the Opera?

Question

Next week at a theater close to my home there'll be a representation of Handel's Giulio Cesare and I convinced my girlfriend to come along!

I have gone myself numerous times to the opera and if I had a partner that likes that type of entertainment, I would certainly bring him to one.

It is a unique experience and what a nice change from those raunchy music concert that leave you with buzzing in your ears and a perfect cause for a tinnitus.

My all time favorite is the Magic Flute from Mozart. It gives me the shivers. That conveys so much feeling, mainly when I hear the Queen of the Night or the deep base voice of Sarastro, the father of Pamina.

I know, opera is not everyone's first choice but some operas could teach a thing or two to some of the modern musicians about the harmony of musical notes and the meaning behind some of the lyrics.

If he really wanted to go then yeah but I don't like opera so it wouldn't make sense to bring a guy who doesn't really care either way to something I wouldn't enjoy.

I might if I dated a guy who enjoyed that but I think guys prefer things like taking hikes or walks or boating and canoeing trips. Opera is more a female interest.

This is a strong move. Firstly, you better know it's a good opera. Second, you need to buy her a dress for the occasion. Shoes and a bag, too. The lead-up needs to be pampering and luxurious, maybe a little excitement beforehand. Last but not at all least importantly, you need drugs. Whatever you think you'd prefer to strap in for the evening, throw back a couple strong cocktails during intermission and you're golden. Rutting like animals on top of the parking garage is purely at your discretion; my cities have great views. And people fucking outdoors in practically Baltimore tradition.

That said, I only really fuck with Meyerhoff for the symphonies and special guests. Same program but with less pomp. Girl can use her own damn bag and shoes for a symphony unless we're really trying at a concerto. Much more relaxed, at least I think so.

I brought an 'uncultured' Canadian to the opera. She was enchanted. It was Mozart's Don Giovanni, which is definitely quite a racy and timeless work.

Incidentally, I saw the seldom performed Mahler 8 last night in Manchester, it was definitely one of the most beautiful and spellbinding things I have witnessed.

Only if they're willing to dress the part. I went to an Opera with someone before. We dressed to the nines and looked "overdressed" (not that we care... we love dressing up). A lot of women were wearing ripped jeans and sweatpants. Men were wearing shorts. That is unacceptable in my opinion.

Hell yeah. Operas are dope as fuck. But I guess she’d have to be the type to enjoy and opera. Some people can’t appreciate the classical arts. Don’t randomly drive her to one without knowing if she’ll enjoy it or not

If she wanted to go to an opera, I certainly would go. However, I would try to pick the opera to be one that I would have a better chance of liking. Not all operas are created equal.

Im not sure.. it would depend on if she would like it or not. Like I've only been to one opera one time and it was at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm when they showed Dracula and I didn't particularly like it that much tbh
