Is it becoming more common for people to have open relationships?

From what I've seen on here, dating sites, and people's posts on social media, it seems that open relationships are becoming more and more common towards the younger ages.
It seems that there is more pressure on the younger generations to sleep around or they won't have anyone that wants them.
Sure the idea of an open relationship so I can sleep with other people when my theoretical girlfriend stops putting out sounds appealing, but don't you think that would cause you to be more detached from your "main" significant other? Everyone would start being interchangeable, and why bother getting super close when you can just sleep with someone else? That just seems to be the mindset people are getting into now.

Ok so I've given my opinion on this a few times now so here it goes again

What your seeing is an increase in media profiles of couples in open relationships because of the following reasons

A feminist centric media that's following the doctrines of patriarchy smashing and pushing this is one way they claim to be doing that

Media articles publishing stories about it because sex sells and poly or open relationships are titillation for the masses, the plebs get to read about this and have a chuckle at the expense of somebody else, at the same time get to say how lucky the man is for getting to bed two women and how sad the men are for not having a spine when the situation is reversed.

So what's the truth then, well the truth is that these types of relationship are not new, not at all and not in any shape or form that people can come out with today. They have been far more common since the 1960s free love era and people have just forgotten that often because they like to think they invented sex.

Another truth then is that these relationships have always failed and there is no single account, not one anywhere, where they have worked really long term, and by that I'm talking ten or more years.

The one at the centre gets exhausted, it's unavoidable because no matter how much they want time to themselves they are always in demand by one or more of the others.

Jealousy creeps into the relationship, one wants the other more, and one gets left out. This manifests in a few ways, the one feeling like they are being pushed out finds somebody else and goes off thinking that they cannot work based off their experience. The one wanting the central person more but not getting the time develops resentment and then has a fuck you moment where they leave to find somebody for themselves, they develop the thoughts that it cannot work because of this and their experience.

I'm 51, raised both my children fulltime, married twice, former Sunday School teacher respected at church and in my professional life prior to retiring early, always believed in all social norms and would never have considered an open relationship and for a few reasons including detachment issues along with absolute disgust thinking about a girl I loved having sex with another man.

Now I will only be in an open relationships. And like anything, it takes time and conditioning to become used. The irony is that if you keep at it, not only does the detachment go away, you actually feel more connected to the person. There are problems in any relationship. What I always end up having to deal with is honestly. I cannot be with someone that lies for any reason.

One day, that person you marry will cheat and lie and sleep around or even fall in love with someone else. You can either accept that and not take it personal, or you can let it eat you up inside. That my friend is ego. We really own nothing in this world or we could take it with us when we die. Your wife is not yours, she owns herself and it her body. The more you control someone, become jealous and afraid, the more you will push them away.

So what works for you. No judgment here.

Where I've lived the typical "open relationship" among the younger generation are predominantly in the poorer working class or welfare individuals. That, if you want the truth, really hasn't changed in my experience from my parents' generation as both recount their lower/working and/or welfare class same-age peers screwing around from an early age with whoever. I attribute it to all around low whatever's whatever likely won't get any better standards.

In general among my exact - reasonably off, upper working/middle class, educated, good jobs, etc. - peers "open relationships" are **not** even remotely common when compared to the predominance in lower/welfare class society. Probably because there's a general sense of respect (self & for others) that disallows such behavior. If you respect yourself, after all, why bother being "second fiddle" in a relationship?

Most young people are kinda possesive and scared of been left. So i doubt they would want to be in a open realtionship were they would feel left and not possesive at all. however this is just what i have seen. I say whatever floats your boat. However this does take away from it being something special between two people. My buddy and his wife are in one. Rules are you can't know the other persons sex partners and have to wear a condom. He’s coming to help me this weekend. They already celebrated vday. Her boyfriend is taking her out and going to be the stand in cock on vday. He loves it. I think it is becoming more common, or at least becoming more normalized? I personally know at least 2-3 people in open relationships, one of which is an open marriage, and I’ve seen posts on Facebook about open relationships more frequently.

I don't know if it's becoming more common for people to have open relationships. I think it's becoming more acceptable for people to admit they have an open relationship. It seems to work for some couples. I know two married couples that seem to have happy open relationships.

I don't have much to put in, if you catch my drift. And I am poor and self supporting so those responsibilities come first. Then my love for fine dining then the transportation and of course suitable clothing. Then if anything left I can accommodate her, which women like humor, forward, aggressive, happy types.
