I would say "A". Maybe communication in the relationship has gone south somehow, he is missing emotional support (and probably so is she) and as a result he seeks that support from another woman who might not be as beautiful but emphasise with him in his current situation.

Probably it is a communication issue anyway. Sometimes two peoples interests / expectations on life diverge and the one who notices that first is scared to admit it. Admitting that a relationship has become unstable because of different development trajectories of the partners is a big deal for some people: When we are younger, we often have the concept that, once we have found the "right" partner and invest effort and care in the relationship, we will happily grow old with them. But this is not how things work, from what I have seen. Sometimes two people have to follow different paths in life and the one who notices first and is scared to admit it might be tempted to cheat when he should have split up instead in a "clean" way.

Of course, there is always also the "asshole" explanation. Some people are selfish assholes. You may not notice for a while, as they appear to care about you as long as you suit their needs, but then...

A possibel special-case of the "asshole" scenario are men, who are cheating but are actually happy with the relationship and love their partner. They may have a very strong urge to act out on, some fetish they dare not tell their partner about or that the partner does not like. This can actually keep a relationship alive but needs a very liberal arrangement and a lot of forgiveness on the woman's side.

Final note: Sexual attractivity ("beauty") is not such a big factor in overall attraction once a relationship has become stable. Maybe for very young, unexperienced men.
But that "big" thing is less about absolute wheight than about proportions - hourglass shape. Any woman that has most of her fat-tissue on her butt/hips has a good chance of matching that preference, independent of her actual weight.
