We had a fun first date and then he hugged me at the end. I am used to guys giving me a kiss at the end. Does this mean he wasn't interested?

The problem with complete dependency on social ques, is that they are so easy too misread, misinterpret, or miss all together. Humanity developed verbal and written communication for a reason. As long as you are not coming on too strong when asking for a second date, ask him. It doesn't make you look needy, or pathetic, and if he is wondering the same thing you are, the one with the stones too ask, is the hero in that relationship, determining whether or not that relationship last beyond the first date.

No it means he really likes you and wants to take things slowly as he doesn't want you to think he's not serious and only wants to get in your panties.

Can't say and don't try an analyze it on that alone. He might have just been being respectful. I don't move in for a kiss on a first date (you never know what someone's opinion is of that, especially with women) so I don't risk it. So unless she moves in or kisses me, I'm not likely to do it.

Example I've had 3 dates with a woman go very well before, and I simply mentioned a kiss and that was the end of that lol. This is why I hate dating. See what we guys go through? Never know what's going to offend someone or not.

Maybe- or maybe he's just shy or old-fashioned, and thinks kissing on the first date is a bit much. Or thinks that you might think that kissing is a bit much.

He probably felt that a hug was a safe bet. It's really awkward to lean into a kiss only to realize the other person isn't ready. That would have been embarrassing and spoiled the mood, especially if it was a public place where other people might have seen.

He might have judged it would be received better than a kiss. It doesn't mean he doesn't like you.
