Is it bad to fall for potential in a man?

This means you see the good in someone and take a chance.

Of course I accepted him as he was. I accepted him as a person.

He wasn't doing well when I first met him. He had a job, and a car but lost both. I was his friend first and supported him being there for him emotionally.

I took a risk on being with him as I thought he's a really good guy and he treats me with respect. I felt like he has potential to be better. I feel like anyone has potential to be better. Fast forward to 3 years later he's still a really good guy and still treats me with respect. And he has a better job now. Which is great for him.

I just see tons of women state to never go after someone cause you see "potential" as you may get taken advantage of. But here comes my insecurity... it could happen years down the line where hed leave me for someone he always wanted but couldnt get because of his circumstance.

If he's that type of guy, he would be showing signs of it. Smart men value loyalty, and know that they need to give it in order to expect it from others.

I've had women who were more attractive than my wife try to get with me. Some VERY aggressively, to the point that older, wiser male coworkers looked at me and said, "She's trouble." But those women weren't there for me when I went homeless. My wife was, and she didn't have to be. That's why I married her. All the money, looks, or intelligence in the world won't buy me that kind of loyalty, and I'm damned sure not going to throw away something so precious.

Damn, that's deep, your insecurity totally makes sense. However, I would argue that he is more likely to be faithful because you invested in him at a time when he was down on his luck. That's true love.
