It depends what age both people are. Teenagers and young adults are at completely different stages than someone 35 and over. The age spread matters less, the older everyone is.

Both these examples would work fine, in most couplings, but the shorter the age spread, the easier it is. Both people are on equal footing, and are more likely to be equally respected, with no major power imbalances.
