I’m in a financial crisis right now but I was pretty well off for many years and I’m not stupid. Should I date?

It’s a long story but I took a very risky gamble with a financial investment and it went completely the wrong way 6 months ago. I own a house, make 6 figure, etc. But it’s going to be at least 3 years until I’m out of debt.

I haven’t attempted to date for the last 5 months because of this. Although budget is part of the issue the bigger problem is the impact on my self esteem. But I know I am still me and I will pull out this. I was in a similar situation 8 year ago and I completely bounced back.

Should I date? I’m not getting any younger.

I could actually sell my house and become completely debt free with plenty left over. But for long term reasons that’s actually not a good idea

I don't know if you should date or not, it's completely up to you and the other person you are going to date. But have you considered selling the house you are living in now and going for a smaller house until you are completely off debt so it would ease your financial status?

Plus after seeing only a few comments this attracted, I wanted to say a little more. I mean look out if there are any women (or men if you prefer, I don't know) who like you despite the financial situation. I know chances are grim but if you think you want to date someone be open to that. Probably lower your expectations a little, coz again chances are lower than normal. Anyway, good luck with that.

Dating has anything to do with your economy at first, aslong as it's not so bad you can't afford the dates. That debt should be removed before you settle down with a woman, not before you date them.

I mean, at my age I already decided not to use my money for silly things. I will not be taking out loans, unless I am buying land. :)

Actually I was taking out loans to buy additional real estate. It’s complicated what happen but it’s horrifying.

The thing I was pretty well off up until this incident. Bought a place and fixed it up thinking I would be ready to start a family. My dating life was horrible the last three years. Sure I have a good job and nice place. But I am “boring” now compared to my former self (who was more of the Peter Pan adventurer type). Women even grown ass women in their 30s still only care about excitement.

I think I subconsciously self sabotaged myself. Like what I had earlier didn’t turn out to be what I thought it would be.
