Is there a difference between I'm not looking for a relationship and "I'm not sure if a relationship is in my near future or not?

Quick background: I have been talking and spending time with a guy and I think things have been going great. He's super busy with the work he does so we're definitely taking things slow and see each other maybe once a week but text/chat everyday. Recently I said something I think might have scared him away

We finally talked about it a little and he did mention that it kind of worried him. He said" I've been transparent. I've been working on things. I'm not sure if a relationship is in my near future or not. I'm happy just hanging out"

I've heard "I'm not looking for a relationship right now" and there's that. Is there a difference in what he is saying? I only ask because this guy compared to others I have dated is a lot more mature and has mentioned to me that he has a lot of "life" things going on but it's all good (whatever that means)

Yeah, he’s not looking for a relationship. His job is too demanding and so he can’t commit or prioritize an actual relationship, at least not at this time. However he does enjoy talking to you. To me, this is him essentially wasting your time because he is lonely. I feel like that is poor use of your time and attention, because you aren’t looking for a friend or someone to keep company, you want a relationship. It’s pointless to base your hopes and fantasies around a future that isn’t promised, with a guy who isn’t currently available. Especially when you can turn your attention to seeking someone who’s on the same page as you right out of the gate.
