First off, good for you for putting yourself first!
As a disclaimer, I guarantee most of the guys on here are going to mock you because of your age and the fact that you're still single, or putting a career over a relationship-
Ignore them. Do what's best for YOU.
With that being said, most people aren't going to understand that yes, it is okay for a woman to put a career over a family and relationship. Why? Because society has been brainwashed to believe that women should be married/in a relationship by a certain age. And her worth and attraction decreases the older she is... again, nonsense.
I find it ironic that for men, if they're single into their late 20s, early 30s, people just think they're trying to "find themselves," or consider them bachelors as if it's a good thing.
I wouldn't care or try to explain your relationship status to people. I'm 37 and still single- I no longer waste my breath explaining to nosy coworkers or friends why I'm single. I simply tell them, "It's easier and I'm happier this way." If men aren't patient enough to understand that you have a career and other responsibilities that come first? They're not worth your time.
Same applies to those that don't understand that maybe you want to get to know them before jumping into a relationship (because apparently taking your time to get to know a person is wrong nowadays or shows you're not interested...). If a guy is impatient, he's not worth your time and effort. The right person will understand your wants and needs and work with you, not against you.
Most Helpful Opinions
The society we live in has been fundamentally transformed from one of courtship to a hook up culture where there is no relationship required to get sex and consequences for poor life choices are only a pill or murder and then life goes on and more poor choices can be made. In this hookup culture, if one person has standards and says no the asker just moves on as getting with someone who wants effort and commitment seems too much like work and delays immediate impulse gratification. Goodness knows we can’t have any kind of delay to any kind of impulse.
