a casual relationship is something where one or the other does not want to fully commit to a real relationship and more or so rather keep it casual so that they can either end things if they wish too or have other people they might also like normally.

there are other reasons too but mainly the reasoning for it is so that there are no ties or commitment so no i wouldn't allow someone to call me they're girlfriend if i was having a casual relationship with someone but then i wouldn't have a casual relationship to begin with so I don't know...

Taking things slow is not a bad thing and feeling comfortable is key to having a good foundation to start a decent relationship! You're still young and there is no harm in not rushing into anything if you feel he might be trying to then make it clear this is not what you want right now and you want to take things slow and allow yourself time to really figure yourself out.

How did it make you feel when he called you that? That might help you decide which you're interested in. And he might have said it to see how you felt (ie hoping you'll like it or say something). But figure out how you feel and then talk to him about it. Or if you're unsure still, let him know that. That you need more time to figure it out (so he knows where you stand).
