Does buying someone a drink show level of interest in you?

Say you see someone new at the bar and want to get to know them do talk to them first and let them buy their own drink until you have exchanged names etc or do you go for it straight away? Or is it not a level on interest thing? Or how hot you find them?

Buy drink straight away is showing level of interest and how hot you find them

I don’t buy drinks. If I invite you to a restaurant, order the most expensive thing on the menu if you can eat it. (Take three bites out of a two pound steak and I have a problem!) But I’m not paying for anyone to drink.
