Do people choose their career paths as to who they are?

Co worker said if u noticed people choose their career paths as who they are, for example accountant tend to to be less social than customer service people and are very more organized

I think men and women tend to choose differently. Men tend to focus more on earning potential when choosing a career path while women tend to choose more based on things like personal fulfillment, flexible hours, favorable work environment, etc.
