The last person that I was attracted to would be around the same age as me so I couldn’t respect that. If her and I never became something that I hoped we would become then I don't know

That will never happen. My son is only 18 and my daughter is 16.
Maybe in another 5 or 6 years…. but it would still be highly unlikely.
