How to help my boyfriends addiction with being on his phone?

When he eats he’ll be on his phone unless someone tells him not to. We’ll try give him hints too by making jokes like even his 8 ur old sister who he hasn’t seen in a while kept making a joke about it. I think it’s bad to the point where when we’re at his family events there’s a lot of silent awkwardness and his family trying to make a conversation..😂🙄. Also currently we’re eating in line and it’s been an hour and he’s said 3 small talk conversations…

So instead of passive aggressive jokes how about make it a serious convo. “Hey I’ve been noticing you are on your phone a lot (give examples of when he is) and ask him why he feels the need to be on his phone instead of enjoying the people in front of him.

I think you just need to directly tell him it’s bothering you. He can’t read your mind and yeah I agree it’s kind of rude. But I say be direct
