How did you meet your significant other?

I've been living in a new city for a little over 2 years now my dating life is pretty much non-existent. I'm not really a fan of bars so I am at the mercy of dating apps. Which isn't any better. I am way better in person once a conversation is going and I don't think I look bad at all, but I have a problem putting myself out there. What is another way of meeting women in an appropriate environment?

What about picking up someone at the grocery store? They ARE for shopping! You could try the old, drop-the-jar-of-mustard-on-her-foot ploy!

I met Madame Ex at a gig I was talked into playing. My guitarist's girlfriend kept begging me to play drums for some friends of hers from New Orleans called, Enoch Light Presents. They are a kind of improvisational jazz rock band that just picks up a drummer wherever they go. and, I got hornswoggled into playing for them when they came here! After the gig, I was just sitting in the back of the room waiting for the other band to play so we could get paid, or what have you (I didn't make a dime from it!) and these two girls showed up and stood directly in front of me. They spotted me and started talking with me for a while until I was being taken back to the rehearsal house.
A few days, maybe a week or so later, I was putting in an application at a drug store, walked right past this one girl who spotted me and said, "Hey! It's you!" I went inside and dropped off my application (never even heard from the fuckers!) and went outside to see who it was that, apparently, knew me and wanted to talk to me! It was one of those girls I saw at that gig I didn't want to play! She was waiting for a bus home to her place and we started talking and the subject of music/records came up and I started telling her about all kinds of stuff I thought she might be interested in. After standing there talking for about an hour, she invited me back to her place for dinner so she could make notes of all the records I was telling her about. She never got this stuff in India! After 2 or 3 more sessions of me going to her place to tell her about these kinds of records, we started seeing each other.

Online. I started dating online in my thirties after divorcing. I worked pretty well for me -- I was never alone for very long.

You should find some activity groups that interest you and also attract women. If you have any interest in the arts, volunteering for an arts organization would be great. Most of the volunteers are women. Or volunteer with a group like Habitat for Humanity. Join a dance meetup. No matter what, after joining any activity group, do not immediately start hitting on the single women. That will put you on everyone's shit list. Do some of the work need to keep the group going. Be considerate. Introduce yourself -- that's easy because that's what newcomers do. If a woman is interested she will let you know by making an effort to engage with you.

Avoid geeky meetups like film groups etc. because they are mostly filled with awkward middle-aged men. If you are active, look for co-rec sports. If you like music, get out to clubs playing what you enjoy. Better if it's not deafeningly loud so you have a chance to say hello. My wife and I frequented Jazz clubs in Dallas and after a while we knew most of the players and a lot of the other jazz fans.

I go to car shows during the spring and summer but it's too cold for that now and that was the only thing that dragged me out of the house.

And how many single women attend those shows? If you make no effort you'll have no success.

Yea you are right. I do see women but I never ask because I always assume they already have a boyfriend and I don't want the guy to be upset/cause problems. I guess I'll just suck it up and go in lol

Don't ask them out immediately. Say hello. If they are interested they will what's with you. Then after some conversation, you can ask them out.

I try to avoid Instagram and Facebook. I feel like I'm a creeper even though I'm not. But of course that's how I feel 😂
