Trivia: director Cameron Crowe hadn't found the song he wanted for the famous boom box scene, so during filming, they used a Fishbone song as a placeholder. When he heard In Your Eyes, he knew it was the right song, but didn't know if he could get permission to license it. Peter Gabriel was contacted, and he asked to see the incomplete movie before agreeing. He watched the movie and he said he mostly liked it, but not how the main character had OD'd at the end. It seems that the studio had actually sent Gabriel a copy of the movie Wired by mistake.

Permission to use the song was ultimately given and it was added during post production. It's become an iconic movie scene and exposed generations of people to the song.
