This question is inspired by the fact that one of my political entourage's members is the young daughter of a local mob boss who's now in jail and whose organization has been shut down. She completely repudiates her father's legacy and is all around a kind and polite girl (if a bit needy at times) but not many people give her any confidence because of her name.

Obviously I'm not dating her, but I work with her and occasionally give her lifts or eat with her, and it irks me a bit how some people (not many though) think me and my wife are hurting our image by having her over occasionally. Like she's some sort of outcast.

They will assume that you have similar interests, values, goals, etc. That is an idea that you don't like but it is the way things happen in the real world.

Father is in prison, criminal organization has been dismantled and she lives with her mother. She goes to University and works part-time.
