I did that once when a girl blamed me for basically nothing significant (slightly overslept on our workday, no big deal). I woke her up and she told me to leave her to sleep some more. I told her the time and warned we're gonna be late. She blamed me.
I didn't want to talk. Felt it was a waste of time and effort. Felt like she wanted me to be guilty about it.
So I resorted to the silent treatment. She tried hard to get a word out of me.
I turned into zen mode and I didn't say a word and went to the university since I had class.

The only time I give a SO the silent treatment, it's because they keep turning every little thing I say or do into a sigh or a roll of the eyes or a full blown argument.

But almost never when someone's trying to actually talk to me. That's usually for people who are afraid of being wrong.
