Man I'm dating informed me his ex moved to town, do I stop seeing him?

I've been seeing a guy for about 3 months. We spend 2-4x a week together and can talk for hours but have come to agree that due to religious reasons and others, that this probably wouldn't work long-term. Knowing this, I've tried to kind of limit my feelings, but the past few weeks have been hard as I've wanted to blurt out: "I love you". I haven't and may never, but he informed me that his ex girlfriend moved to town recently. He has been avoiding meeting her, according to him, and he's free to meet her if he wants to, but I think I'd likely remove myself from that situation as they ended on good terms. The reason for the end was because she moved to a different place and now they're back in the same city... I know I have to "let him go" so to speak if that's what he wants, but I'm wondering if ending things before risking further complications would be best?
