Just curious if these actually meant something. Specially for the man and for woman what's your opinion?
Trick question: I don't have it in eyesight at all. It's in my pocket or purse; it only comes out if I have to check something, or I'm taking a picture.
I was raised where it's rude to talk or be on your phone when you're on a date- unless it's an emergency. Or he steps away to the restroom, then I might check it, only to put it away when he returns.
Basically give your date respect and full attention- I do that for close friends and family as well.
In my purse… I do not like having my phone on display in public let alone at the dining table. That’s rude!
don’t pull my phone out at all when I am on a date with a girl that I am fully
Interested in , I think people that play on hero phones during a date is disrespectful and shows what kind of person they truly are , if I really needed my phone I would tell her sorry but I am expecting an important phone call but other than that no phone period
Neither on a date. I'd at least have on silent and in my pocket, if not off. It would be rude in my opinion otherwise.
If at social gathering I'd put my screen downwards so I am showing I am rating the group is more important.

I have my phone with me almost always, because my mother is 92 years old. But when I was dating (engaged now,) the phone was in my pocket and my attention was on my date.
On a date, I almost always have my phone in my pocket.
Thinking back to my dating days, I remember that I would always keep my phone in my bag and turned to silent, so as there was no distraction and naturally showing good manners.
Screen down. It's a signal of respect and I've seen phone-addicts literally look at my phone screen when it's dark like a compulsion.
Turning it over reduces this.
Also, I don't want to see the screen and I would rather have it screen-side down in case someone drops something on it.
Having you phone out and texting at this time is a definite sign of disrespect. I have strong boundaries now so I will not see that woman again. One and done dating.
When I dated I never looked at my phone, there’s always something about the person worth learning about, even if you are not each other’s types.
While I spent time with them they had my exclusive attention.
Normally I wouldn’t take my phone out of my pocket but if I did, it would be face down and silent. No need for any phone drama while on a date.
Not on the table is no option? I guess screen in the back but if we go out its rarely on the table at all.
Keep the phone out of sight , if your on a date they should have your full attention. That goes both ways , no games.
I leave the phone at home. Why people feel the need to take their phone everywhere with them is just bizarre.

I must confess to always having my phone with me, purely if nothing else for emergencies only.
I guess over the years due to the nature of my work it's become an automatic thing for me to do.
Always up. But I keep the ringer off and I won't answer anything I don't consider an emergency.
Honestly it's never been a problem with me on dates. I actually had one woman see my phone screen light up on me and say "you can answer that". And I said "I'm with you, they can wait".
Screen should be down if it's out at all. Otherwise you're constantly going to be glancing over every time you get a message. Doesn't really sent a good message to the other person.
Yeah, I don't take it out of my pocket. Nothing says 'I'm here with you but this device takes priority so it remains within reach' like a phone on the table beside you. What, you can't go an hour or two without it?
Screen down unless I'm expecting a message/call. Screen down to show I'm paying attention to the person (s) I'm with and because sometimes the screen reflects the lights weird and it's annoying
My phone is usually in my bag or pockets unless I'm waiting for something. Don't think it matters if up or down on the table as long as you're not distracted all the time
I would not even have my phone on the table. That's so rude.
I haven’t been on actual dates in awhile but I think I’d have it in my purse. But with volume on due to having a child so if whoever my child was with needed to reach me I would hear my phone
In my bag because I want my focus to be on him and talking to him not my phone.
I usually leave my phone in my vehicle or leave it off so my date can have my full attention throughout the date.
My phone is always in my pocket, date or not. If im at work, church, etc, its in my pocket if I’m not on it
I try to keep it in my back pocket or my jacket depending on the weather. But if I do have my phone out then it’s facing screen down. Unless I’m waiting for an important call or something or if the date is going bad.
i don't have my phone out of my pocket to begin with. only time where that's ok to me, is when the other person goes to the restroom.
At work, always face down
At home, always on a little stand
In my purse, I’d rather be present and I’d hope for the same.
Screen up but I don't use it when i am with him. We are almost 1 year together and i NEVER touched my phone when in his presence.
I tend to keep my phone with the screen down because I don't want the screen to break or crack. I do the same around friends.
In the holder on my belt.
Unless it is a department notification that is where it will stay.
My date will have my full attention.
If it’s out, I have it facing down but most times I just keep it in my pocket, I don’t use my phone during a date unless I’m showing them a picture of something
On a date it’s in my pocket. I’ll check when going to use the restroom like everyone does on dates.
In general, I keep my phone screen up, because I don't want the screen to be scratched. On a date, I keep my phone in my pocket.
In my pocket. I find it rude to use the phone when with someone. Value their time and keep away from social media when with them
I just carry it on my belt with the screen facing out in case I need to look at it. My shirt covers it.
