Guys, do you feel obligated in paying for a first date? Why/why not?

I don't feel obligated to pay for a date because I am not obligated to date. But for my generation, there is an expectation that the guy will pay for the date, I can afford it, and I never think twice about paying for the date. I haven't always been aware of a girl's financial situation, and I usually select the location for the date (I suggest a restaurant and she usually agrees) so I feel better paying for everything.

This is something to work out before even going. Depends on who's got cash, how much, the occasion, and where you're eating.

If it's a quick stop at Taco Bell or Subway, because that's all there is, then as long as she isn't pigging out, I'd probably pay for both.

Via social norms we are required to pay for all dates. But guys have used it as leverage for some time now and some girls will only go on dates for a free meal.

So I have created these rules. I'm always prepared to pay but I let the girl ultimately decide and if she want an expensive meal she will not get it on the first or second date. Helps protect both of us.

Man didn’t ask you to do all that. Not saying you need to look like a hobo, however if you have to put that much effort into just looking good on the first date, chance is attraction goes down from there. I always say there shouldn’t be a drop in beauty from when I see a girl on the first date to when I see her with nothing on first thing in the morning. Often times not all cases with women but most, get less attractive with no makeup and not all dolled up.
