Why do Indian men want a woman to earn more than themselves and also do more housework?

Indian man here and this statement is absolutely false. Indian women in India have a very low labor force participation 19% (ILO 2021). And even the ones who are working would never marry a man who is earning less than them. The delusion is quite common on matrimonial sites (similar to dating sites/apps but objective is marriage) where women who earn let's say $2000 pm want a man who earns $10,000 pm (five times more than them), has multiple properties, good car, etc.

If, as a man I am marrying someone who doesn't have a job and is over all a financial responsibility to me than they're going to earn their keep by doing household work and child rearing. This isn't gibberish I'm saying but the natural patriarchal way of family dynamics not only in India but most of Asia, Africa, etc. No one eats for free.

I don't think most Indian men want their wife to earn more than themselves. Usually that's a deal breaker in arranged marriages. Are you basing your entire generalisation based on one or two men?
