I took my wife's last because her last name fit my first name but my last name did not fit her first name. my familial last name does not fit the majority of women's first names for that matter. so growing up anytime I was interested in a girl I would add her last name to my first name if it sounded bad I would know she was not meant to be in my life. When I met my wife I did the same thing and it sounded fantastic so I knew she was meant to be in my life. I asked her out a few weeks later and that as they say was that

For me it matters. More than likely she’s the one who wants marriage, but you’re not willing to have my last name. So I take it maybe it’s strictly for legal matters on her end to be secure in case she divorces me or something. How can you have a family unit if you have separate names? I’d make sure to meet someone who wants the same.

I know my boyfriend wouldn’t care if we got married, he has even asked me if I’d want to keep mine or if I would take his. In his culture the women keep their last name when they marry and their children just take the father’s last name.

Not a problem. Especially at my age, if we got married, she has a long history with her last name, people know her like that, let her keep it. She can hyphenate if she wants, but to me that's not cool.

I would feel some kind of way honestly.. Kinda takes away from the Come together as one aspect and probably a little selfish as well.. Plus it would confuse things with our children.. At the very least we could hyphenate it or combine our last names if I really loved the woman..

I would not marry a woman who wouldn't enthusiastically take my last name. There are a lot of practical and legal reasons a husband and wife (and their children) should share the same last name. If a woman chooses to ignore those things and keep her last name in marriage, it tells me enough about her wordview, priorities and attitudes toward men and marriage that I know she doesn't deserve to be my life partner.

Marriage has become very unrewarding for today's men. A man keeping his last name and passing it on through his children is one of the few remaining benefits of marriage for men now. Taking that away may be the final nail in the coffin of the instittion of marriage.

Just wonder what name (s) will the children, then grandchildren, use. Meaning the father will want his name used and the mother her name used also. Some daughter like mother keeps the tradition alive. So latter in life we have a 5+ last name
