How long have you been single?

How do you answer that question?

Break up took a place 1.5 year ago. So I consider myself single for 1.5 years and that’s what I answer when I am asked.

BUT

I dated past 1 year.

I dated one guy in January - March, I broke up with him after he confessed his feelings to me and introduced me to his friend as his girlfriend, because I realized he was seeing me as his girlfriend while I was thinking I was single and even dated two other guys around same time. I am not proud of that, but I was just recovering from a break up and was just dating, not sleeping with anyone.

Now if someone asks me, should I answer 1.5 year? Because quite honestly, that’s the last time I was in a committed relationship, I have never given any promises to other guys I dated.

If I were you I'd answer 1.5 years yes.

I've now been single about 4 months maybe not quite , I found out my long term girlfriend had been seeing a Tomgirl , and had been seeing her for around a year , the Tom initially contacted me with pictures ( she did not know about me ) , since then she had a Boob job , of which I paid half because I had opened a bank account for this ( in her name - I wanted to save over time , you can't just give straight up ) 60 baht , but that was over 2 years , although all of a sudden this became a major priority for her. Then I found out , she quit her job of 5 years , and moved Cities , to be with this Tom , all rather daunting , and you'd think I would have known , in hindsight now I can see.

Then I met another one ( too quickly I will admit ) but she was so full on , and I just kind of went along with it , we drove Thailand in her car from Bangkok , Hua Hin , Sattiup ( Bang Saray ) to Trang in the South , it was a full on month and a bit , then she was begging me to come back to Trang ( but Trang is boring for me ) , then she wanted 4 video calls a day , I explained , no way I can do that , once a day ! Thats enough , then she turns back up , and tells me she is getting married. What ! OMG.. Think I dodged a bullet with both..5555 .

Its not like I'm new to this stuff , but the likes of Thailand always can throw a curve ball , even when you least expect it , so the first one shocked me , but the second one , I just laughed and wished her luck.

So thats my recent story , the ever changing life , at any age ! hahahaha

I have been single since my senior year of high school. I graduated at 18 years old and recently turned 36.

I have realized I have wasted a lot of my time. When I have used the dating apps I put in minimal effort, with the unrealistic expectation that a woman would make the first move, as well as the unrealistic expectation that I was somehow desirable despite not having my shit together. I wasn't attractive to the girls I wanted to date. Now I realize I cannot attract the type of woman I desire without having my shit together and I need to focus on that instead of trying to find a partner.

I just dont know if im fully for commitment. So i like having my alone time but my alone time doesn't exactly equate to single. Just space

If someone asks you how long you have been single, you can answer as you feel. Whatever you say, you will have a reason for that. Don't dwell on it too much... it is not so important...

That guy - seems to have considered me as a girlfriend but I never told him I considered him as a boyfriend or anything. And as soon as I realized we weren’t at the right page - I broke it off.

Yep. I feel like, if a man wants me to be exclusive with him, he should communicate very clearly from the beginning, I don’t want to emotionally invest and figure out they are not as invested as I am.

This way, I have a right to either decline or proceed whatever I was doing.

Last Valentine’s, I had two dates 😄

Funny that I am sitting home now, I feel like I had enough of dating.

To answer your question. I would say 1,5 years. That other guy saying you're his girlfriend without you knowing ain't being in a relationship in my eyes. You're not a bad person for him thinking you as his girlfriend while you were only dating.

Committed relationship was 1.5 years then that's how long. Sex has nothing to do with it. You can be in a committed relationship and not have sex.

I am married now, but I have had times where I was single by choice for 4 or 5 years.
