Am I wrong for getting upset at my boyfriend for wanting to watch his favorite team play soccer and not want to kayak with me and my friends?

He wants to watch the game and go kayaking and tells me he feels 50/50 about going even though I already told him about it. I’m very upset about it but I’m trying not to show it.

It's an eternal battle with boys and their sports. You win some, you lose some. Football in the fall, I just mostly accept and try not to plan much with him. Then the rest of the year, he knows he's doing stuff and those are the sports he cares about less. It takes compromise a lot of the time but try to accept every once in a while, he just can't miss sports sometimes. It's annoying but he'll get defensive sometimes if you always try to force him.

Unfortunately I can’t. It was a group plan and the only day everyone is available.

Support your man don’t make plans knowing that the big game is on that week. You can go kayaking any other time. I’m sure it’s fun. I’ve done it before at camp and canoeing other times

I know it's easy to think "he's picking the game over spending time with me" (I assume that's the real reason you're upset) and technically that IS true, but the same could be said if he wanted you to watch the game instead of going kayaking.

Also, would you really be able to enjoy that time spent with him if he doesn't want to be there? I doubt he would be any fun to be around. Prob would be awkward for the friends, too. You would have no right to be mad either cause you got what you wanted, he gave up something that was important to him, and you can't expect him to be happy about it.

Nobody can say their activities are more important than their partners activities. It's best for both of you to just do your own thing.
